+6 Internets | My Personal favorites include: Guided By Voices-Alien Lanes and Bee Thousand----- Listening to Bee Thousand reminds me of the first time I listened to the Beatles "Revolver". Bee Thousand is 20 wonderful catchy songs, that are just weird enough to keep it interesting (with lyrics like "All around the breeding grounds, the nymphos sweetly played, the Queen of Cans and Jars will keep them safe" and titles like "Kicker of Elves" and "Gold Star for Robot Boy") Bee Thousand is simply amazing. Alien Lanes is similar, except I would describe it as more of a collage (28 songs, none longer than 3 minutes). It's like an orgasm of pop hooks, arena rock and bizzare lyrics. I suggest both of these albums to anyone I also like the Pixies Doolittle and Surfer Rosa, Built to Spill's "Keep it like a secret", all Beatles albums post Rubber Soul, Led Zeppelin 1 through Physical Graffiti, Bob Dylan's Blonde On Blonde, and Neil Young After the Goldrush, Harvest, Tonights the Night, and Rust never sleeps

| This is a tuff one... but I'd go with Pink Floyd - Piper at the Gates of Dawn if only because of Syd Barretts genious and the fact that most people (even Floyd fans) don't know who he is. Other favorites in no particular order: Radiohead - Amnesiac Radiohead - Ok Computer Alice in Chains - Unplugged Queens of the Stone Age - R Nirvana - Unplugged Black Sabbath - Paranoid Pink Floyd - Meddle |

| David Bowie - "Ziggy Stardust" (absolutely brilliant) Bob Dylan - "Blonde on Blonde" (a classic if ever there was one) The Beatles - "Revolver" or the "White Album" (can't decide which one I prefer; both were revolutionary) Radiohead - "OK Computer" (needs no introduction) Depeche Mode - "Violator" (DM's best, unquestionably. an infinitely listenable, yet dark album) Led Zeppelin - "Led Zeppelin IV" (How has this not been mentioned before on this thread?) A Tribe Called Quest - "The Low-End Theory" (hip-hop meets jazz meets the smoothest, most intelligent rap I've ever heard) Nirvana - "In Utero" ("Unplugged in NY" takes second place; but when you think about it, the only reason that album receives the massive praise it does is because of the stunning cover of "The Man Who Sold the World." Overall, "In Utero" has a higher percentage of quality tracks than any other Nirvana album, in my opinion) The Clash - "The Clash" (what Daahoud said) The Cure - "Greatest Hits" (I know it's 'cheating' to list a greatest hits album here, but nonetheless, what can I say? It's got all of their greatest hits!) The Sex Pistols - "Nevermind the Bollocks, Here's the Sex Pistols" (great, great album. infinitely influential) The Velvet Underground & Nico - "The Velvet Underground & Nico" (legendary 60s avant garde album, filled with hard-hitting and, at times, very dark songs) The Smiths - "The Queen is Dead" (I'm sure someone else will gush a fountain of praise over The Smiths, so I won't have to) Pink Floyd - "The Wall" (a masterpiece in every sense of the word)

+38 Internets | Hmm, I should have mentioned Led Zep - Physical Graffiti as well. I don't know why, but a lot of people seem to dislike it or think it's overrated, but goddamn there are lots of good songs on it (and any album with In My Time of Dying deserves to be up there). |

| Definetly...The Wall by Pink Floyd ...and yes I have Piper and know who Syd Barret is. Actually I think he's kinda over-rated by Floyd fans. Waters was their best songwriter BY FAR. ...and why does everyone love Ten so much. I like Pearl Jam as much as the next guy but that album is pretty shitty other than Jeremy. ...and the Fragile rulez ok i'm done |

+2 Internets | I would have to say Dark Side of the Moon and Wish You Were Here are two of my favorite albums as well. I think The Wall is a fantastic album, but its war theme and Roger Waters obsession with his fathers death is a little over done (this is pretty noticeable in the movie). There just seems to be a little too much Roger Waters, and not enough David Gilmour. Syd Barret is extremely talented, but unfortunately he took one thousand too many acid trips and all was lost. But one thing I have to wonder is would have Pink Floyd been as great as they are if he was still in the band? If so, David Gilmour would have possibly never joined and Roger Waters would have probably stayed a figure in the background. But all in all, I prefer Pink Floyd after Syd. I would also have to say David Gilmour is the main reason Pink Floyd became as successful as it has. Each person played an important role into forming their sound, but his guitar work and song writing is beyond exceptional. |

+16 Internets | Year: 1998 Label: Warp Artist: Autechre Album: LP5 It's pretty rare that an electronic music album manages to keep both quality and variety from start to finish. But Autechre is in a class of their own with a unique sound, which can be described as the constant battle between a cold and mechanic sonic magma and desperately naive pop lullabies. This battle has moments of chaos and moments of order but there is never a winner. The omnipresent spleen, the music as work in progress (pace changes, sounds mutate, songs seem to fall apart and hesitate before suddenly going in another direction) and the phrases that seem to never end are amongst the many qualities of that odd UK duo. LP5 is their most brilliant album.

| it all depends on the category of music for me.. PanterA- Far Beyond Driven Slayer- God Hates Us All (shutup it was good) Led Zep- (take your gdamn pick) Floyd- The Wall (dark side of the moon close behind) Black Sabbath- Sabotage (omfg <3 Hole in the Sky) any SJR and Down are up there imo, but i cant whole heartedly pick any of their albums as "the best" cuz i basically cant hate anything Phil Anselmo does........those were in no particular order (except PanterA.....always will be at the top of my list ) |

| Yeah I agree that Gilmore is a brilliant guitarist and very underrated as well. He has a very unique, slow and emotional style that no one seems to be able to duplicate. I've seen plenty of Floyd cover bands and even saw Waters solo show a few times but I haven't seen one guitarist that can match his sound. I have to agree with you that Gilmore is definetly responsible to some extent for Floyd's success as well. Waters may have been coming up with some awesome lyrics but it takes the guitar hook to back it up. Still the story told by the Wall and the way the whole thing flows together is fucking amazing. |
