| The up the folk punx thread So this topic doesn't get talked about a whole lot on FoH, but maybe we can change that trend. I usually just refer to the genre as folk punk, but really it's just punk with some acoustic instruments. If anyone likes any of these bands let me know, I listen to this a lot. Last.fm is alright for similar artists also. I really, really like Defiance, Ohio. When my friend first showed me them about 5 years ago I pretty much hated them, but with The Great Depression they really grew on me. Most everyone in the band sings at some point. You can download everything they ever released for free here: defiance, ohio news Other artists to look into: I really enjoy Paul Baribeau (singer/songwriter stuff), Grand Ledge and his s/t are solid choices, and he also has a CD of springsteen covers. Andrew Jackson Jihad (acoustic guitar/bass, funny but annoying voice at first) has a lot of songs I like. Brave is a Noun, Survival, Bad Bad Things, People, Rejoice are as good of a place as any to start. Ghost Mice is pretty popular since 1. they are very good and 2. the singer runs PIX. I like their self titled and splits most, I wouldn't really bother with Europe or Debt of the Dead too much. The best part for me about all of these bands are that I can see them for $5 tops in basements or small local venues, and they tour often. I've at least talked to all of the bands I listed and they are all pretty damn nice too. This forum has a pretty good list of where to download albums by a lot of these bands if you don't want to use up your ratio: Up The Punx A-K - Streetlamps Up The Punx: L-Z - Streetlamps Apparently at that same forum this topic also got covered: Folk Punk - Streetlamps My name on soulseek is voguenine if anyone wants to be added to download too, just send me a message there or a PM. |

+21 Internets | DKM and Flogging Molly are as close as I can come. Young Dubliners too.

Also Zikoril, the AM! similar artists page is pretty good apparently. It's mostly the same bands I listed really. Only exception is I would ignore Strike Anywhere and just listen to Rise Against. Similar artists to Against Me! – Listen free at Last.fm | |
