No, people just like to brag about how doing normal, everyday shit somehow makes them superior to the rest of the population.

Last time I checked, going to concerts isn't an "normal, everyday" thing. Unless you have more money than sense. Especially, driving 300 miles and paying 150$ to see a band, sure as shit isn't "normal, everyday shit"

He's basically getting at, if you want good entertainment sometimes you have to go out of your way to get it. Which probably most people won't do, they'd rather just sit at home and do whatever.

I found Dragonforce to be ridiculously entertaining and furthermore hilarious/ridiculous live (which is really what they aim for) add in the fact that they really do have skilled guitarists (mostly Herman Li), but yes their songs all sound exactly alike, oh well, not every band can be the best band evar.

Speed picking and continuous hammer-ons and pull-offs is hardly skill. There's no substance to any of their solos. They use the bare bones of technique, not to mention I'm pretty sure their solos are sped up.

I've yet to hear a Dragonforce solo that didn't sound fake, or a solo that had something other than speed picking in it.
Where's the vibrato, bends...

If they used

Hammer-ons
Pull-offs
Slide
Bends
Vibrato

They expand their options much much more. Mathematically, there are 120 possible different orderings using those five articulations (and that's without considering a given technique could be repeated in a single lick). Unfortunately, most of their shit only uses the top two listed.

Entertaining live? Probably, but their studio sound is pure shit.

Haha, he's going to go to a concert to see Dragonforce, but isn't interested in Slipknot or Disturbed. Hooooooomo.

I completely understand people not liking Dragonforce, I mean it's goofy as shit metal. I really hate when people say this 'fast forward' bullshit though. Go watch them live, their studio shit isn't sped up. Do you really think they could get away with touring and playing slow as shit but then playing fast on their albums? That's just fucking stupid.

Yeah, they can. Just like singers can get away with lip syncing. Whether it's sped up or not. They're not talented and their music is shit. As I said it takes no talent to speed pick and do hammer-ons and pull-offs. Especially when you consider that their shit is done with electronic keyboards and sounds EXTREMELY electronic, like shit you'd hear in a game, which is very easy to speed up....even live.

For being as fast as everyone claims them to be, they hold no rank at all in the top 10 fastest guitar players or shredders.

I'm always amazed at how much effort people put into hating dragonforce. Say that you enjoy it but don't take it seriously, and they go into a 30 minute Powerpoint presentation about how terrible the band is.

I won't say I hate them, but I was pretty disappointed when I actually picked up their CD. Fire + Flames and Ground + Pound are really the only things keeping me awake on that CD. I could easily fall asleep to the rest. You gotta change it up...8 minute songs that don't really go anywhere don't do much for me.

Seen them live at Ozzfest, was pretty bad. When Avenged Sevenfold outperforms you.. sheesh.

To say that it doesn't take skill to speed pick and play their style is pretty short-sighted. It all depends on what type of music you play. If you can play through scales quickly you create a ton of flexibility in what you can do, and they play a hell of a lot quicker than most bands you hear. Their song-writing may be crappy and bland, but they are far from unskilled players.

Yeah, I definitely don't dig their music, cause they use the exact same structure to pretty much every song I've heard of theirs and every damn song sounds the same.

All the skill in the world doesn't mean a thing if you have no creativity and are trying to write and perform original music, though. They may play at virtuoso level as far as their skills are, but as far as songwriting goes, they're mediocre at best, and since they're playing their own music and not someone else's, that brings down their overall quality.
