| “I may not agree with what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it.” Voltaire, sometime in the 1700s. This shit isn't hard. You don't like what someone says, you don't listen. |

| Let me guess, you're the same type of person who would scream bloody murder about any kind of anti-internet neutrality/freedom of speech bill? Give me a fucking break.

| Not true. Evelyn Beatrice Hall (S.G. Tallentyre), surmised Voltaire's position of speech as "I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it" in her biographer of Voltaire (The Friends of Voltaire - 1906). It's been incorrectly attributed to Voltaire ever since. |

With the death of Tim Russert, the downward spiral of the media continues. Our media outlets are becoming a disgusting pit of lies and distortions for profit. Although MSNBC may engage in some of this, they do it to combat the shockingly bias, unprofessional work on FOX News. Implementing the Fairness Doctrine will hopefully cause radio stations to go under which will silence charlatans like Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh.

You don't even understand what incremental reductions on Press Freedoms that the fairness doctrine will do to your cause AT ALL because once again, you're dryhumping that submit button without spending a SECOND'S consideration about the consequences of your fake indignity. You're soooooo sure that the Fairness Doctrine will address some imaginary disparity about "opinion sources" because MediaMatters said so. But guess what retard, while FOX News can __ALREADY__ claim conformity to the Fairness Doctrine with crap like Hannity and Colmes how many timeslots do you think Comedy Central can devote for conservative counterparts for Jon Stewart and the Colbert Report? While Clearchannel can afford to prop up a featherweight liberal commentator to match Rush and Laura Ingraham, how much more syndication do you think Bill Maher can stretch before broadcasters and HBO decide that it's not worth doubling the timeslot just to conform when they could just put a movie or a new miniseries in ONE timeslot. That's assuming they'll even reach THAT decision with Maher's pathetic viewership---remember, he's been bounced around ABC, Syndication and Cable forever. You think MSNBC can afford to halve its programming between fluff conservative talkshows and the pure uncut liberal bullshit that their niche ultraleft viewers (yes, both of you) can barely support their network with? You think FOX, who just launched not one but TWO FOX Business sister networks, would even work up a sweat with the Fairness Doctrine? You didn't even bother to understand what you were soooo happy to waive your constitutional privileges for, you just heard it on the MoveOn.ORG RSS feed and figured it was worth busting a bloodvessel over. That could be because you're just incapable of grasping simple concepts like the abstract section of a congressional summary. Or it could be because you simply don't have the ability to simulate reality and anticipate the consequences of your immediate actions like all high-level primates like babboons and chimps can do. But mostly it's because you're a complete and total retard. Last edited by Khorum : 06-13-2008 at 04:36 PM.

| while i agree with most of what you said khorum, i dont see how Fox opening 2 business channels factors into this discussion. btw that randi chick on air america called for Pres Bush assassination not too long ago . i dont recall ever hearing Rush or Hannity doing that. |

| The Fairness Doctrine is not unamerican, unless you also think anti-trust laws are unamerican. This is just making sure that there is a "market" in the "free market" of ideas. In addition, I thought the Fairness Doctrine was around for quite a while before and was abolished by Reagan. Right now, super-rich conservatives can blow billions of dollars a year on media enterprises. For example, the Washington Times (owned by loony cult leader Rev. Moon) has lost billions and billions of dollars over the years. But it's an investment, because he changes public opinion. But then you can argue about how awesomely american it is so that only the super rich can influence public opinion. Last edited by voodoochile78 : 06-13-2008 at 05:15 PM. |
