| Guitar Guys part 2: Another restoration (mine this time) Same builder that made my custom and restored my buddy's UV7GR in this thread: http://www.fohguild.org/forums/milli...hlight=sherman Is using the leftover paint (and some extra booze) and has been working on my RG550. Here's a couple of before shots: ![]() ![]() That's the neck after me just whacking it with sandpaper to see if it would even be worth cleaning up. I don't have a proper before shot of it, but I've had it since about 1994 - this pic is of me (on the left) playing it around 1995. The guy on the right is Ben Carroll from Ra, who is a longtime friend and jamming buddy of mine. You can almost see how worn the fretboard is in that old pic, and it was a LOT worse before I took it apart. I've played the fucking hell out of this thing. ![]() Here's the pic I got from him today - this is same guitar. If you look at the 8th fret, you can see the one part of the fretboard that was just too worn out to be completely salvaged. ![]() The pickguard was custom cut and has plastic on the top, which is why it looks so dirty. This headstock pic is after the first clear, before buffing. New life for an old dog: ![]() Pickups are going in this weekend (X2N bridge, PAF Pro neck) and I should have it back after putting a 10 years and thousand miles on it next weekend. I'm reusing the old hardware, which has been scrubbed and oiled along with new knobs (obviously) and a new nut. Since 11 of the 16 guitars that I own are black, this obnoxious motherfucker should stick out like a sore thumb when it's back home in the stable. ![]()

+14 Internets | I would have gone with an Ebony neck just to carry the black from the pick guard up to the Head Stock. That's just the personal preference of a guy that likes any early 70's Dodge that is green with the black detailing.Always liked the shape of Ibanez headstocks , Not a huge fan of strat style bodies but again Ibanez has a great body design as well, aggressive but not overly masculine, very subtle . This only has a volume control? no tone pots? |

| I love Ebony fretboards, but this was a reso/refinish - that's the same fretboard. There will be volume/tone, and a selector switch - he just hasn't cut 'em out yet.Good eye on the color though - that actually IS Mopar superbee green paint. ![]()
