| Suggest me some......good punk Ok, my punk collection is sitting in the 70's and early 80's atm and haven't heard any really good punk released for ages (assuming because it was never big over here). I'm looking for suggestions on good punk bands, along the line of Exploited, Anti-Nowhere League, DK's, Buzzcocks, Pistols, Radio Birdman etc...mostly prefer hardcore style and for fuck sake, no Good Charlote, Rancid, Blink 182 or any other bubblegum punk thanks ![]() |

| hmmm, what would be an example of emo-punk? I'm starting to get into some emo bands now (eg MCR) but, given that bands like Cure, Smiths, etc that were just called goth in the day would now have been classed as emo, I don't have a problem with listening to it. |

+25 Internets | This is what I listen to 90% of the time. I guess it's called "90's Punk." Anyways, I love it. It's not new, in fact most of it is coming up on 15 years old or so, but it never gets old to me. Since you didn't list any of it, I'll assume you haven't heard much of them. - LagWagon - Pennywise - Bad Religion - Ignite - Dropkick Murphys - Flogging Molly - Guttermouth - Descendants - NOFX - Circle Jerks

| Cool, thanks for that. I have most of Pennywise and MudHoney stuff, have a little NOFX but should get more for sure. I've noticed a few posts here recently about Flogging Molly so will give them a listen, along with Dropkicks (have only heard them through GH3). Will also give a listen to the other bands listed and see how we go. Are they all US based bands, or there some euro's in there as well? |

| Someone might challenge otherwise, I've always considered the Get Up Kids to be somewhat punk-ish in an emo way. Or Saves The Day. Possibly even Always Outnumbered and Samiam. Just some off the top of my head.

| Sorry, will never listen to them (or Mars Volta) ever due to their actions at Big Day Out in sydney. They took the stage for their set and people were amped to see them so moshing started right away. Omar took the mic and told everyone to stop it, they were being sheep and if they didn't then they'd stop playing. Kids kept moshing and having fun and so two songs into a 45 minute set, those self-righteous fucks walked off stage. Fuck everyone that paid $120 just to see them just because they think they are so above being a general punkish band...nooo, they have "a message" so everyone has to be still and listen to them tell it. Fuck that and fuck them. I'm sure they were quite happy to take the cheque at the end of the night though...but man, did they show their fans or what. So yeah, no thanks to them but thanks for the other suggestions ![]() |

| I'd add Misfits to that list. Some of my favorite songs from them are Return of the Fly, She, London Dungeon, Die Die My Darling. I'm big on the Dead Kennedy's and Circle Jerks VI album too.

| Hah from what I understand about that Big Day Out show, a girl died later that day moshing. It's hard for me to believe that they pulled that shit because they have a message they want to spread, because I mean 99% of their lyrics are completely nonsensical. That said, they are so fucking good. Also the day I heard Mclusky's Mclusky Do Dallas was one of the better days of my life. I like Rise Against's The Unraveling and Revolutions Per Minute. Also Against Me! up until about Searching for a Former Clarity, but that's a lot more haha happy punk than I guess what you're looking for. I've never grown out of Reinventing Axl Rose though, so I'd give it a shot. And second the Dropkick and Flogging Molly recommendations, never really cared about NoFX though. If you find a band you like, can always hit up last.fm and look at similar artists, it usually works pretty well. |

| Of the newer (90's) Misfits, there are some good tracks on American Psycho and Famous Monsters. I'll also recommend The Decendents, but they can be somewhat cheesy. I'll second Rancid (Op Ivy's 1 album), Pennywise, Bad Religion, NOFX...all good enough! Ian McKaye has put out a ton of good shit with Minor Threat and Fugazi (13 Songs is the one to get here) too. |

| For some modern ...well, kinda-hardcore punk, you can try Strike Anywhere. Their first two albums (Exit English and Change is a Sound) have my seal of approval, but I haven't listened to the rest. They really, really know how to end a song with a bang. Choice songs from Exit English: Aluminum Union, Blaze, To the World, Lights Go Out, Modern Life, New Architects Then there's Leatherface, a band that's been criminally overlooked. I've heard that they open for bands that cite them as a primary influence . The entire Mush album is great, as is Dog Disco. His voice is unmistakable, and I think he destroyed it after a while. His singing in Dog Disco is scant more than a whisper.I also recommend 2 albums by Refused: Songs to Fan the Flames of Discontent, and The Shape of Punk to Come. The former is probably the angriest album I've ever heard, while the latter is just...a masterpiece that transcends genre. Be warned that Refused is HEAVY, at least by my standards. (Oddly enough, Amazon LOVED TSoPtC...check out their review: Amazon.com: The Shape of Punk to Come: A Chimerical Bombation In 12 Bursts: Refused: Music ) Those are among the only recent (within the past 15 years or so) punk bands that I've thoroughly enjoyed. I'll mention, though, that a lot of people -- a lot of punk fans -- really dug the first two Rise Against albums. I never got into them, but they might be worth a mention. Their later albums, purportedly, are pop-punk. |
