Satellite radio

Hey guys

Ok I read a while back that Sirius & XM were merging, or had merged. So what does this mean for buying satellite radio equipment? Will they both be compatible with whatever happens??

SIRIUSMerger.com | XM + SIRIUS Satellite Radio = More Choices, Better Pricing, Same Radios

"Today, fans of satellite radio must purchase two radios and two subscriptions to get all the program offerings of both SIRIUS and XM. If our merger is approved, the combined company will offer consumers the best of each service on your current radio - at a price well below the cost of the two services today."

They are very clever how they word it about the pricing. They say the current cost will be cheaper than subscribing to BOTH the services. So yeah it will be cheaper than $25/month (which is very expensive.) And they say "If you're paying $12.95 for your current programming, you won't pay more than that for the same programming." So it looks like if you want to get a mixture of the two services you will be paying more than $13/month, but less than $25. Oh well.

Any way to make more money I guess =/

Even if it's only 2 dollars extra per person, if you add up how many people use it, there's a huge profit increase.

A merger may not be possible due to monoply issues.

you would have to be 'shit-on-the-floor' retarded to think sirius-xm would be a monopoly.

no one needs sattelite radio...and seeing how their compitition is FREE, they have only an up hill battle. That being said, the content on sattelite radio is 100 times better then regular radio.

The DOJ already ruled that the merger could happen (ie it would not constitute a monopoly). That leaves the FCC to rule, since they originally divided the spectrum in half.

The proposed pricing scheme is "a la carte", with plans starting as low as $6.95/mo for basic music, but you pay extra for sports and talk packages. I believe they said you could get everything for $14.95-$16.95/mo.

Personally I want the DJ-free music stations from XM packaged with Howard Stern from Sirius.

Terrestrial radio is fighting the merger tooth and nail. Recently they managed to buy off a dozen state attorney generals to to sign a complaint. They are trying to strong arm satellite radio into giving them free bandwidth.

As it is atm Sirius is the stronger of the two and more likely to survive if the merger is denied or it drags out too long. This seems to be the hope by regular radio. Drag things out until they can wound both companies.

The only thing that is anti-competitive is the power that big industries such as terrestrial radio and their lobby has. Where were these same AGs when they changed the rules to allow companies like Clear channel to own entire markets.

Do you have a job? I can hardly balk at $13/mo for radio when my cable/internet bill is $150/mo and gas is $60 every 2 weeks.

Anyway, I would never consider canceling it and going back to normal radio now. Any time I rent a car for business trips, I request Sirius. Fuck having to find new stations every 60 miles and suffering through 30% commercials.

My cable/internet is just slightly less expensive then yours. Do you get all those premium movie channels (like the 4 HBOs, or 3 cinemaxs, etc?) I do, and I use the on-demand occasionally, but I can't really justify the price anymore. I don't know. Seems so easy to just DL whatever you want.

The same line of thinking when direct TV came out. Who in their right mind will pay for satellite TV??. The rest is history.
