| Yeah, I noticed the syncing was 10x slower over wireless. So basically if I have to use my computer anyway then I might as well plug it in. I guess it's handy for a cable-challenged environment. Oh well.. would be cool to be able to buy shit and play it while in bed, on the can or outside. Apple does it!! Meh, can't complain about free. Edit: anyone have a suggestion for converting AVIs to some Zune compatible format?

+29 Internets | There's lots of stuff out there to do it. Personally I haven't gotten around to it. I've got like 500gb of porn and movies in xvid, but I haven't had a chance to look into converting. The wireless is kind of useless, really. I'd estimate that a single wireless sync that downloads say two albums reduces the battery life by at least an hour or two. It's that much of a power whore. |

One is Windows Media Encoder 9. Its free from Microsoft and has worked perfectly for me every time. Get the Windows Media Encoder 9 SDK also which has a batch conversion app in it if you want to do more than one file at once. This lets you customize the quality settings so that you can find the balance of size vs. quality that you prefer. Another option is to get the multi-extension support mod ( Zune Boards - Zune Software Hack: Multi-Extension Support ) which will allow you to convert videos automatically when you sync them to the Zune. The disadvantage is that converting a file takes freaking forever so if you are doing a bunch of video files you can expect some seriously long sync times. You also don't get to choose quality settings.

+29 Internets | Fantastic, my Zune lasted all of two weeks. I was out for a ride on my Yamaha and noticed at one point that a song would pause briefly a couple times. I wrote it off to not having hold on and the play button getting pressed by the gas tank. Sure enough, a song or later the music just stops. I got home and hold had been on, but the power was off, no backlight or nothing. I try pressing the buttons to get it to turn on, and nothing happens at all. Eventually I hold down all three for a good 20-30 seconds. That seemed to at least get the backlight to power on. Now whenever I press one of the buttons, or even touch the pad, the backlight turns on, but no screen or nothing. Plugging it in to USB doesn't do anything, either. And yes, the battery was just fully charged. Any suggestions? I wonder if MS will try to fuck me because they aren't available here yet. Bah nevermind, it's working now. I searched and found the proper way to reset it. After holding the back button and the top of the touch pad, the HD made a loud clunk and it restarted. Whew, had me worried. Kind of concerning, however. Combined with another time when a slight static shock caused it to reset, I'm really wondering about the durability of it. edit ver 3.0: fucking awesome, it lost my entire collection and now I have to do another 8 hour sync. edit 4 - motherfucker, it didn't lose the collection, it just now thinks my computer is a different computer and wants to re-sync everything even though it's all still on the Zune. There's 36gb of reserved space from other computers showing up now, and when I try to play shit with the zune, it shows nothing in my library. I am going to murder someone. +4 Internets | Man I feel your pain Eomer. I haven't had any hardware problems, but software problems have caused me to resync my entire library at least a few times. If you have videos its best to convert them ahead of time so that they can be synced quickly. Then when bullshit strikes its only a 30 minute inconvenience instead of 30 hour.

| I've been using my new Zune extensively for the last few days. I really dig it but I had an issue with an empty folder that would not delete. I couldn't see it on the Zune, just in the software under device. It irritated me to no end so I just erased the entire Zune and resynced. Luckilu my collection is only a few GBs so it was done in 10 minutes. Oh, point of post: Try just erasing the whole thing and resyncing overnight when you should be charging it anyway.

| XNA platformed was released a couple of months ago for the Zune. Apparently there are a bunch of games you can now play on it. Like Tetris and some deer hunting thing among others. Zune Boards - Developers! Developers! Developers! Twobit: use a program called Cucusoft Video Converter for AVI to Zune. |

| Decided to purchase a zune after trying an ipod classic. and LOL at Eomer... a month after your purchase zune came to Canada and it has a 10% discount too at BB for canada day. Hopefully M$ would advertise this shit so ppl would start purchasing it instead of the ipod. Give iPod some competition = better product. iPod has too much market share that Apple can keep releasing inferior product to make more profit. |

| I picked up my Zune today. I can say I definitely prefer the Zune look over the iPod look. Also the matte finish is much more desirable over the chrome on the back. However, I've been syncing for 4 hours now and I still haven't synced 11 gigs of music (about 1000 songs). Is it just me or does it usually take that long? |

| Make sure you aren't syncing videos. It may be converting some .wmv files which takes for-fucking-ever in the Zune Software.
