| The Howard Stern Show I know many of the regulars here listen to the show and watch Howard TV. Maybe it's time we have our own thread for the show. Considering it's a radio show first, and a TV show second, I didnt really know where to start the thread. So I just stuck it in General and lets see what happens. So today on the show, Artie Lang basically attacked his assistant Teddy. Howard, Robin and the rest of the crew were obviously very shaken by his behavior. I think Gary said it best when he made the observation that a few months ago it was Sal, today it was Teddy, who can predict who could be next... even Joan Rivers. Yesterday on the show, Artie was asleep on a cot (and the floor) for over an hour. You can see pics at Howard's website. Will Artie be back on the show? Will he kill himself in Amsterdam? If Artie is actually fired/quit who should be his replacement? I personally love Artie, but holy shit, today was just way beyond the line. My vote for a replacement would be Greg Fitzsimmons. But I hope it doesnt come to that. I really hope Artie comes back, but he needs help bad. |

| Artie is out of control... but that is a good thing. That is HIS thing... I never thought for a second that howard hired him for his comedy writing prowess, he hired him because he has amazing stories of drugs and alcohol, life and hollywood. There is no way howard would let him go, except for some type of illegal activity in the studio, so if he leaves, it will be voluntary... could be weight, depression, sickness or death. And yes, I do believe the Amsterdam trip will be devastating for Artie, he will either be back on the heroin wagon or it will just set some type of other wheels in motion that he wont be able to stop once he gets back to the states.

+25 Internets | I used to wake up at 4am to start my cassette tape recording of the live Stern feed from vegas so I could listen to it later. I was in 8th grade in 1994. Good times. Haven't had the chance to listen since he moved to satellite.

| Pride Never Die | I've been waiting for Artie to crack and wig out finally. Howard needs to say you need to straighten up or you're out. He really needs to get tough on Artie. It was funny and scary at the same time yesterday when he fell asleep. I'd be surprised if he lives another year. It's just that scary. I won't be able to listen to the show today till I get home from work, and I really can't wait now! Personally, I'd rather they have Gilbert replace Artie because Gilbert is gold all the time. I hope they have Gilbert on soon. It's been awhile!

| I'm not sure where to put this thread, to be honest, but since it's radio-related, I'm going to stick it in Music. Not a perfect match, but since it's a media-related thread, it's probably best served in one of the media forums. |

+2 Internets | What time did this happen (on a 6AM-10AM time frame) during the show? On my short morning commute, it was the interview with the director of Juno. When I went to lunch, I heard them mention this fight on the Wrap-up Show but they quickly went off on some dumb tangent about Jason's dancing. How bad was it? I can't imagine Artie's fat ass doing much damage unless Teddy (never seen his picture) is equally fat and can't get out of the way. Is Artie not coming back really a possibility? He is easily the funniest part of the show. I would hate to see him go.

| artie is hilarious and next to howard probably the most valuable member of their staff. theres no way they'd let him, they'll just milk ithis for the dramatic value. |

| I was listening to the show this morning. I usually catch the west coast feed at 9 am, but today for some reason I couldn't sleep and woke up right at 6 am. Man, there was no way I could have predicted Artie's actions. He was getting down during the dance off and seemed to be in a good mood. He threw some barbs at Lisa G during the end of the segment, though nothing really vicious. Let me give a disclaimer by saying I am a big Artie fan. I think he is a huge part of the show (no pun intended) and he is one of my three favorite people on it. With that out of the way... I think Artie did what he did to get fired. I also think that his original intentions may have been to get out of the Amsterdam trip. As Robin pointed out earlier, it sounded like he was using the bachelor party as a means to see some more of Europe. He basically told everyone else going to leave him alone and act like he wasn't there. Artie takes every chance he gets to complain about how he dislikes getting up early for the Stern Show. He also loves to complain that he was up late doing stand up. His theme this past month has been how he's getting so tired of it and he's ready to give it up, etc. His "attack" on Teddy (apparently he threw a cup of water at him and unsuccessfully bull rushed him while other staffers blocked his way) was an easy way out. The weird thing is is how Howard never punishes him. I really don't think Howard would fire Artie from the show. You heard how he reacted after the incident. He told him to go home and come back in two weeks (vacation next week). I love Artie, but why does he always have to bring up money? He ALWAYS brings up how much he gave someone, how he's always giving this or that. Look at the Teddy incident. He started saying how much money he's given him and somehow turned it into Teddy is stealing his money. Wtf? Bringing up money turns the lovable Artie into a piece of shit I'd rather not listen to on the show. Will he be back? Definitely. The only way he won't be is if he quits since Howard will not fire him until he actually injures someone on the air. |

+2 Internets | Howard doesn't really hire/fire people. Obviously, he can get that power if he wants it, but with all prior incidents dealing with employment contracts (Bubba, Riley Martin, even Scott the Engineer) Howard took a wholly hands-off approach. It is really a smart approach, since he can avoid all the heat that arises over these negotiations. Similarly, he doesn't take the responsibility for disciplining people who should know better (he makes exceptions for retards like Sal). Artie is an intelligent 40-year-old man. Howard doesn't need to explain right from wrong to him.

| Artie is funny on Howard because he is such a mess. Apart from Howard, hes not the most memorable comedian. I love hearing his fucked up stories, but sometimes his stand up is really so so. Hes been on a downward spiral for years now. Any day I would expect to hear he has diabetes. I highly doubt he would get fired..and he already tried the I am leaving the show bit, but came to his senses. I think he will ride out the rest of Howards' contract and re-evaluate from there. If he doesnt get a handle on his health however, I seriously cant see him doing very much for very long without it all catching up to him. Iron Sheik has eben the greatest guest in very long time... |
