| Metallica's New Album I have actually found no information about this album at all. Other than it's due out this spring. I've found no name for the album, no song listings or due date. Though, I did find this.. I'm not sure it's on the new album... but if it is, I'm looking forward to the new album. I know a lot of you aren't fans, but this is a huge difference compared to St. Anger. Which is a plus.

| Flaccid Steel | It was due this Feb but they pushed it back to Fall. That is old... they've done a lot of "new songs" during the 2006-2007 tours. Most of them were absolute shit and I doubt would make it to the album. EDIT: BTW most people are fans of the older Metallica. Just that a lot of people hate on them for the last 10 years (Napster + shitty albums) Last edited by The Dauntless One : 03-09-2008 at 01:05 AM. |

+7 Internets | I'm an old fan, myself. My dad actually got me Justice when I was 9 (on cassette) and I've been a fan since. I'm also the rare fan that actually really liked Load and Reload, though I felt St.Anger was shit (first album I didn't like of theirs). I'm hoping this albums is better, and I'm sure I'll get it, though if I actually buy it or just torrent it is up to them. Either way, I'm looking forward to this.

+42 Internets | Sounds like St Anger with slightly less singing and without the CLANK CLANK CLANK of the worlds most annoying drum setup ever. Metallica should re-release St Anger for free with a redone drum track. |

+7 Internets | God yeah, fuck those drums. I might have actually liked that album, but I couldn't tell ya, because I've never been able to get over the drums.

| This song and the other new song will not be on the album, both this and the other were developed pre-Rubin involvement. I am not going to start tossing out links because anyone that is actually a fan of Metallica has spent the time reading up on the Albums progress but I'll say this much. It's strictly E-tuning which the two new songs were not, the E-tuning Heralds a return to James previous Vocal style during the Black Era. Note that he did in fact blow out his voice and if you spend sometime watching you tube live videos of their performances during 1993 you can hear the change, earlier shows had the trademark growl while later shows had the weaker voice brought on by him utterly destroying his vocal chords during a performance of so fucking what . The newer voice was brought on by work with a vocal couach but was weak in that he had trouble staying in tune, hence tuning down a half step from that period on and trying to re-develop his voice. This is after he blew his Voice ,try any other wolf and man from that era live and you'll hear the difference. In those years since it's gotten progressively worse and recently more work with a vocal coach, who apparently didn't suck ass this time had allowed him to go back to the growl we all know and love, which has in turn allowed them to go back to standard tuning. The tuning and his vocal style are much of what was missing in the load-reload era, many of the songs were pretty thrashy at least riff wise but sounded muddy due to the tuning, played standard they sound entirely different like wasting my hate or Ain't my bitch for example, and King Nothing sounds down right evil in standard. Outside of the Drums which were terrible Anger was recorded in even lower tunings than half step form standard and various drop D styles as well as the use of 7 strings making them even muddier than before and again, re-tooled and played standard some of them are pure old school Metallica. Hetfield hasn't lost his penchant for riff's they just tried to many experiments with tunings, some bands like Soundgarden can make a career out of writing songs in odd tunings and others, like Metallica, don't fare so well. In any case a recent interview with Lars long time assistant at Ultimate Guitar stated that the couple odd songs he had heard straight through had a one/fade vibe, the slow dirge with crashing choruses followed by a total breakdown and quickly paced time change into full blown thrash in the ends, which in my opinion has always been one of their great strengths, the dynamics and constant time changes in songs has always felt like a journey with the older music regardless of whether it was fast or slow paced. It's also the source of one of my greatest annoyances with the band and one that they have claimed to be annoyed by in their influences in that they come to a fantastic riff and stick to it for all of 30 seconds before moving somewhere else. That's one thing I like about newer Metallica songs, specifically on the black album in that they would grab 3-4 Riffs and make a song of that so you get to enjoy the riffs a little more rather than And Justice style writing where you have 15 riffs in a song and few ever get the chance to really be enjoyed before the song changes course. It's sometimes good and sometimes it's like Fuck that riff owned I hope it comes back later in the song, and it never does =(. Anyhow I think the Album will be good, I have seen some recent live performances of them performing classic songs and they sound way better than many performances I have seen from mid '07 and before ,I liked anger musically but I just didn't like the tunings used and the drums were terrible, when I saw them live with Lars using a concert kit the songs sounded pretty fucking good. That album was all kinds of bad production. So this return to standard tuning and embracing the things that they are good at rather than trying to pioneer or re-invent the wheel is welcomed, I can't see them making a bad album from that point of view and while I know the guys that think Metallica didn't matter post ..And Justice will probably still hate it I look forward to it. Those people need to accept that along with Glam that style of thrash died in the 80's ;no bands since then have been able to really capture the style and sound that so many bands like Metallica and others pioneered during those days. There are some bands that evoke it but moved further with the sound and have done so brilliantly but the overall feel and sound died when the 90's came around. |

One of the most annoying things I run across when listening to various rock music. You just want to reach through the speakers and grab the band by the throat and be like "Do you know how awesome that song would have been had you just explored that part some more?" Don't ask for specific songs but I recall Deftones, Helmet and some Sepultura that did this at times and I wanted to kill people. Oh, I remember one song, Starfuckers by NIN. One of his worst choruses ever and generally one of his weakest songs to date but god damn that fade-in bass thing he does during the beginning of the song is just pure win. I usually avoid remix albums but bought Things Falling Apart for the three Starfuckers remixes on it in hopes that the bass-thingy would be exploited only to be let down (in fact that first remix is so bad I refuse to listen to it). Anyway. /rant Yeah so Metallica. Uh, whatever. I'm as curious as the next guy but in no way shape or form have they earned me watching, waiting, and drooling over their next album like a restless fiend. I'll listen to it when it comes out but I ain't holding my breath. I just feel like they jumped the shark with Napster/St. Anger. I too liked Load and Reload but that was what, 10 years ago?
