old school hip hop

i searched for "hiphop" because both "hip" and "hop" are too short and i couldn't search for them separately.

i'm looking for suggestions on everyone's favorite old school hip hop songs, especially dance-able music. modern re-mixes of old songs are also great. i recently picked up:

Grand Theft Auto: Vice City, Vol. 5 - Wildstyle Pirate

Rockit - Herbie Hancock
The Message - Grandmaster Flash
More Bounce To The Once - 2app
One For The Treble - Davy DMX
Bassline - Mantronix
Hip Hop Be Bop (Don't Stop) - Man Parrish
Al-Naafiysh (The Soul) - Haskim
Clear - Cybotron
Looking For The Prefect Beat - Afrika Bambaataa
Rock Box - Run DMC
The Breaks - Kurtis Blow
Magic's Wand - Whodini

this seemed to be a great start, but if anyone else has any suggestions or favorites please post up so i can enhance my collection. i've heard some amazing remixes of jackson's thriller and some james brown songs, but they were in videos and i couldn't get the titles or artists.

I don't know about the modern remix aspect, though I guess there is probably one for anything. But how about Boogie Down Productions?

I was just about to say Newcleus. That whole album is great. I think it was the first tape I ever owned.. got that Run DMC's Raising Hell and Bon Jovi for Christmas one year when I was young.

Give People Under the Stairs a listen if you want a mix of old school and present-day rap.

Specifically the song "Acid Raindrops" off the O.S.T. album, probably not what you're looking for, but I can't pass up a chance to plug this song.

For old school there is only one. Eric B. and Rakim "Paid In Full". Nearly 80% of what came after that for the next 10 years sampled from that album.

Public Enemy - Fear Of A Black Planet

Still a mystery to me why no one followed the trail of this insane multilayered mix of beats and sound clips the Shocklee brothers were doing at the time.

They did, it was just the pure turntabalists and samplers who ran with it.

Something tells me you are looking for the block of hip-hop that came before this though...

It was all fucking cheese until the 90s dude move up a decade.

Because I INSIST you check out Eric B. and Rakim. Remember, these beats originated from this album. They did things with James Brown years before anyone else.
