| Electronic Music Recommendations So I got a Zune pass and have access to a shit ton of music now. I like electronic music but never buy it because Im pretty ignorant of the subject. I like NIN instrumentals (esp the stuff off of Still) and I like The Prodigy (Only the Fat of the Land). So I guess I like moody electronic instrumentals and electronic mixed with rock. Any suggestions?

| The previous post recommends some really club sounding pop electronic. Which might be good to break your teeth on, but for the most part annoys me personally. There is alot of diversity within electronic music. I'll drop a recommendation in the thread in a bit with a decent album from the 6 basic genres of techno in a bit. |

| Covenant Frontline Assembly VNV Nation Combichrist And One Apoptygma Berzerk Counterstrike Daedelus Dawn of Ashes Dismantled Ellen Allien Fischerspooner Felix da Housecat Grendel The Knife LSG (older, maybe not on Zune) Mochipet Scandy Underworld Most of that is fairly industrial with the exception of Ellen Allien, Fischerspooner, Counterstrike (drum n bass), Underworld and The Knife. LSG is old ambiemt/chillout/trance from the 90's that I'm in love with, but it can be kind of a bitch to find sometimes. |

| I personally, if forced would divide up Electronic music into 6 genres. Drum & Bass, House, Trance, Breaks, Techno, Hardcore: They all have a distinct sound and it's not a science by any means telling them apart. I'll throw you a bone though in getting started with each one. I am going to try and keep the selection somewhat well know in order for you to nag them easily hopefully from the Zune Store. Drum & Bass Bad Company - Shot Down on Safari Shot Down on Safari – Bad Company UK – Listen at Last.fm Techno Richie Hawtin - Decks, EFX & 909 Decks, EFX & 909 – Various Artists – Listen at Last.fm Hardcore Rotterdam Terror Corps - From Dusk Till Doom From Dusk Till Doom – Rotterdam Terror Corps – Music at Last.fm House Joey Beltram - Classics Classics – Joey Beltram – Listen at Last.fm Breakbeat Krafty Kuts - Fabriclive 34: Krafty Kuts Fabriclive 34: Krafty Kuts – Various Artists – Listen at Last.fm Trance Sandra Collins - Lost in Time Lost in Time – Sandra Collins – Music at Last.fm They are in order from good (D&B) to faggotry(Trance) in my thoughts. There seems to be a appreciation of Daft Punk, Justice, MIA, Aphex Twin and what not, so here are some other flavors of electronic music you may or may not enjoy. If anyone happens to like something i linked and would like more recommendations of a smilar artist or other albums, let me know. Last edited by Lowk : 03-20-2008 at 09:11 PM. |

+1 Internets | I think trying to divide electronic music into 6 genres really doesn't do it any justice. There are so many different styles of DnB, hardcore, trance etc. that one can sub-genre sound almost completely different to the other (dutch hardcore compared to UK hardcore, psy trance v. hard trance, all the millions of DnB subgenres, whatever). But for the purpose of not having this devolve into another shitty argument about genre classifications - Trance: Cosmic Gate Agnelli & Nelson Paul Van Dyk John Flemming Talla 2XLC Sander Van Doorn Marco V Hard Dance/Hardstyle Donkey Rollers Luna Pavo Zany Blutonium Boy Yoji Biomehanika Ultraform Scot Project Showtek Amber D Defective Audio Kai Tracid ASYS Hardcore Neophyte Panic Tha Playah Hixxy Re-con Scott Brown Sharky Kevin Energy Arkitech AMS Proteus Breeze Other (techno/house/progressive/whatever) Sasha John Digweed Richie Hawtin Sven Vath Ricardo Villalobos Steve Lawler Carl Cox And, most importantly, the two best sources for electronic music on the web: Livesetsonline :: Index Digitally Imported Radio - Free Internet Radio Stations | DI.fm (use winamp if you don't have it, and download an addon called streamripper, which will automatically download and store tracks played on internet radio stations for you). |

The 6 I listed with examples of the sound i was talking about with them will give someone with no knowledge of electronic music a roundabout reference point on where to look in the future, should he like the sound. edit- Friends don't let friends listen to trance ![]() Quote:

| On the subject of generes... Big Beat (chemical break) is my favorite. Had too lookup a few artists to find the right genre label. Trance is another awesome genre. Following three youtube video's are first three parts of a 24 minute track done by ATB and Paul van Dyke. Track is "Rave Mix - DJ special K" theres versions floating around on torrent sites. 12 minute version is ok, full 24 minute is excellent. |

As for trance, I like a fair bit of it, though the genre is only just coming out of a bit of a slump after a year or two, if you're willing to dig deeper than the Tiesto/AvB/A State of Trance type stuff there's some decent music in there, not to mention psytrance, which while technically a sub-genre of trance, more or less belongs in it's own catagory, since it has an entirely seperate sound/scene.

+1 Internets | Quote: Maybe 10 years ago. The trance scene has evolved a fair bit, in my experience anyway. The candy kids are usually the ones hanging out at hardcore parties, trance parties usually draw a more mature 'clubbing' crowd, still do a lot of drugs, but without the whole 'omg I'll ingest anything that will get me into an altered state of consciousness then go run around in candy and phat pants all night poking peoples eyes out with glowsticks' vibe that ravers give off. With hard dance parties falling somewhere in between, and techno/house parties over the other side of trance.Or maybe that's just my city/country? I dunno. After all, every scene has it's stereotypes. Don't get me starting about angry, fight starting, meth smoking juice monkey blowout whore junglists ruining the vibe at every festival with a DnB stage ![]()

| I was one of those elitest asshole junglist types back in the day... The midwest to this day still churns out candy kids like a factory. It has permanently scared me...I can't listen to Most Trance and House with out feeling like a e-tard failure. I have gotten over that for alot of the house genres that don't have a disco or "tech" influence in them. Trance though is fucked for good between the candy kids at raves, dochebag guidos at a club and the random people that talk about how cool it is to listen to trance after they smoke weed, i can't get into it. |
