+8 Internets | Some one recommend me some too. I like electronic music but most of the time I hear a track or two I like, then go check out the artist more I don't like the rest of it. The one thing I love all of is Daft Punk. Someone told me one time that means I should be looking for a subgenre called filtered house, but that didn't do me any good. Maybe Daft Punk is just totally unique and stands far above other electronic music or something? I don't know, but they are the only artist I have ever been able to dig past just a couple tracks here and there. |

I'm sure you've already heard Justice, which is extremely Daft-Punk-esque, and which everyone is listening to right now. I'd add to the list Mr. Oizo and maybe MSTRKRFT as being very reminiscent. Beyond that, I'd suggest perhaps Digitalism, and maybe Akufen's album My Way, which is not completely dissimilar. Beyond that, I'm afraid there are probably a lot of good artists I don't know about, because I don't really listen to a lot of house; if you find someone in particular, post it here! If you enjoy it, you might also want to download this remix comp album they did. The remixes on that are pretty solid and very Justice-y. You can definitely find it on Soulseek -- I'm not sure if it's around on any torrent sites or not. | |

+52 Internets | There's a pretty broad smattering of Goa/Psy/Progressive/Ambient and some older electronic classics(Prodigy, Crystal Method, Armin, etc) on http://trance.uberguilds.org:8128 and I update it somewhat regularly. Might be a good place to look for groups that you like. I try to be pretty selective in what I put on there, but obviously my tastes will differ from the next guy.

+4 Internets | I just listened to this bad ass album today called You Have No Idea What You're Getting Into by Does It Offend You, Yeah?. And yes, I hate bands with fucking long ass phrases but this album is dope. Check it out. |

+5 Internets | That Ishkur guide thing has lots of samples, but it isn't a guide to electronic music, it's a guide to dance music. He shoves 60% of electronic music into the "downtempo" section and mislabels most of the genres therein. Last edited by Fog : 03-27-2008 at 01:46 AM. |

+5 Internets | I got tired of Juno Reactor. More and More I cannot listen to their non-soundtrack samples. The following are some of the most influential albums in my electronic education. I will avoid attaching genre's, because quite honestly, anyone who really likes electronic music in general will float their tastes across several genres, and to hell with the classification. Older bands/albums: The Orb - get their collected works... it filters out some of their drug induced crap. Orbital - Pretty much every album. Listen to the 27 minute long track "The Box." Underworld - Pretty much everything. Aphex Twin - Selected ambient works. Ronisize - Any of their works are examples of old school urban sampling. Faithless - Sexual Electronic delight. That is all. Getting Newer: The Prodigy: Start with The Experience, move up from there. Crystal Method: Vegas is an iconic album. Should be in every electronic collection. Daft Punk: All three albums are iconic and influential. These guys inspire most modern electronic DJs. I consider them geniuses. Portishead: Try their new album, Third. Massive Attack: Yeah, all their stuff. Some people don't consider them electronic. They are retards. Moby: Generally considered an American Electronic God, he is very urban, very soul. Modern: If you are into dance/club type music, you cannot beat: Chemical Brothers Tiesto Gigi D'Agostino Benny Benassi Paul Van Dyk Royksopp If you like the more electronic, less dancy sounds: Kattoo Beefcake LCD Soundsystem Mum Tomas Jirku Squarepusher Suicide Commando Rotersand Fiendflug (this, and the two previous, all sound more industrial, and ever so slightly nazi) Peter Gabriel (zomg him?! Yes. Him.) Murcof Multiplex Imogen Heap (Again, some might not classify her as electronic. Again, retards.) Flint Glass Arbre Noire B. Fleischmann Anthony Rother Amon Tobin Just some suggestions from my currently active playlist. Do not be afraid to continue to browse multiple albums of the same artist if you happen to not like one song. As with all electronic music, the artists often shift tone, tempo, and mood from song to song. If the names above interest you, you have but to ask me, and I will supply them. |
