+2 Internets | SXSW 2008 Did anybody make it down to Austin this past week? It was my first year going and I was amazed! I didn't have a badge or wristband and got to see nearly everbody I wanted to see. So many events during the day were free and in the evenings most events just charged a small cover charge. Spent a lot of money on booze :P But all in all I got to see: A Place To Bury Strangers The Black Angels Islands Man Man Atlas Sound Fleet Foxes Man Man And a few random other ones thrown in. Was all in all a badass time -- especially since I was under the impression you had to pay $600 for a badge to get to enjoy anything -- not true!

| I live here in Austin so just stayed here for Spring Break. My first time going as well, and man it's a fucking amazing experience. The whole city is just alive with music from Wednesday to Saturday, and there are so many people from around the world that come just to check it out. I was talkin with some chick from Japan while I was waiting in line to see Simian Mobile. I had a wristband. It was nice since I could conveniently just walk into any show I pleased, but to be honest, there were so many bad ass free shows that you could've had a bad ass time regardless of having one. The only time that badges had a significant advantage and was a fucking gay ass experience was while I was waiting for like 2 hours in line just to see Simian Mobile. Badges had priority though so here I was sitting for 2 hours in the wristband line, badges just kept piling up and being let in until the place got to capacity. I was fucking pissed. Anyways, I got to see a little of everything, but I mainly went to a lot of electronic shows. I saw MSTRKRFT who was awesome as well as Z-Trip who I had never heard of prior to SXSW but really fucking rocked. I was rolling balls for that show though so it always has an influence on what you watch. I saw Junkie XL which to be honest, was kind of a letdown. I saw Crystal Castles, A-Trak, and Kid Sister which was a pretty bad ass show. Somewhere in the mix I got to catch Diplo who was pretty good too. I saw MGMT one of these days who I thought kind of sucked ass. It was fucking hot, the sound kept fucking up, and it was packed with a buncha annoying 16 year old hipster fags. It was at the Urban Outfitter. Tally Hall was fucking awesome, played a great set even though it was acoustic and with an out of tune piano. Kaki King was all right, I had seen her before and she played better I thought the first time. But then again she's playing like 5 shows during sxsw. Tokyo Police Club were really good too, but by far the show that I was most impressed with and whom I had never heard of was Anathallo. They were fucking amazing. Anyways fucking fun time. |

| Plugged In Like Neo | I heard the chick from Crystal Castles was curled up on the ground and wouldn't play her show until like 20 minutes in or something. That's crazy. I also heard that Jeanenne Garofalo (spelling) had a mental breakdown during her comedy show and started ranting about suicide and depression and apologized because she wasn't in the right state of mind to be doing a comedy show. Did anyone catch Why? |
