Pemberton Music Festival

Holy shit, this looks sweet as hell. The venue might well be comparable with Sasquatch, the views should be awesome. And the lineup is sweet as well. And 3 days of shows as well, I've never understood why Sasquatch went to a Sat/Sun festival only. So yeah, rounding up troops for this one for sure, fuck Sasquatch. At least I can bring an unlimited supply of pharmaceuticals to this one.

Not bad, seems pretty weak on small bands minus day 3 though

edit: dude just looked at sasquatch's lineup, and it may not have the headliners, but top to bottom I prefer it

That does look pretty good, I'll hopefully be in Vancouver by that time, might be neat to go check out.

Yeah, personally I'm more of a headliner kind of guy. Considering this is the first year they're holding it, it's pretty impressive for a lineup.

My main problem with Sasquatch is that a) I don't know half the bands and b) no Friday show is fucking retarded.

Huzzah, only a couple days away. Anyone going? I plan on having dilated pupils for 72 straight hours.

Holy shit that was fun. It wasn't a flawless production by any means, traffic was a pretty serious issue as there is only a single lane highway back to Whistler, but overall I thought it went off pretty well. Very good vibe from everyone there, people were mostly quite friendly and all too willing to part with pharmaceuticals. Good times. Jay-Z should have closed, not Coldplay (Chris Martin even said so during their performance), overall the music that I caught was awesome, everyone was on their A game.

How was NIN? I'm seeing them at Lolla this weekend and can hardly wait, the back seat of my car has about six NIN albums scattered about.

Having seen NiN twice before this, both in Stadium venues, I can say that this was the best performance I have seen of thiers. Trent was on his fucking A game.

I think this was how they kicked off their tour? I have heard from a variety of musicians that the initial performances on a tour are usually weak as they get their voices, and such back into the swing of things, but from watching them you wouldn't know it. Or scarier, this is him at his worst and his still sounded amazing.

Fuck the traffic, seriously. The whole busing and the road checks and all that other none sense. How they didn't expect that is beyond me. They should have had a small stage set up and had some shit going Thursday night to try and convince more people to go then . The Fox should have had a seeds show or something going on, just anything. Squamish is a fucking gong show when the logging show is in town for christs sakes, they had to know that if something like that is capable of crippling Squamish, that Pemberton was going to get fucked royally by the traffic.

The organizer said on the radio that outside of the traffic issues, things went well. Especially considering the retard fest that Merritt is, they were planning for the worse and surprisingly it was pretty tame. So he said they were going for it again next year hopefully, So here's hoping they work out a better traffic system if that's the case.

Fuck - Yes

By the looks of their practice session videos, they looked ready as ever. I'm seeing them at Lolla, then two weeks later back home in OKC. I saw the setlist at Pemberton and it looked really diverse.

Eh, found this at The Spagetti Incident

999 999
1 000 000

Letting You
Discipline
March of the Pigs
Head Down
The Frail
Piggy
Closer
Gave Up
Corona Radiata
The Warning
The Great Destroyer
Echoplex
Wish
Terrible Lie
Survivalisim
31 Ghosts IV
The Big Comedown
Only
God Given
The Hand That Feeds
Head Like a Hole

Comparatively, here is setlist from Seattle (since festival & stadium gigs tend to differ in songs):

1. 999,999

2. 1,000,000
3. Letting You
4. Discipline
5. March of The Pigs
6. Head Down
7. The Frail
8. Closer
9. Gave Up

10. The Warning
11. The Great Destroyer

12. 1 Ghosts I
13. 25 Ghosts I
14. 19 Ghosts III
15. (Ghosts?) Piggy
16. The Greater Good (?)

17. Pinion
18. Wish
19. Terrible Lie
20. Survivalism
21. The Big Come Down
22. 31 Ghosts IV
23. Only (cu un alt intro)
24. The Hand That Feeds
25. Head Like A Hole

26. Echoplex
27. The Beginning of the End
28. The Good Soldier
29. Hurt
30. In This Twilight

Fantastic I thought. I was pretty messed up at that point as well though, so that might cloud my judgement. I thought they were the highlight, personally. The friends I was with didn't agree at all, as they're not really NIN fans outside of their early shit. If they'd only played PHM and Downward Spiral, they'd have left happy.

Also, that festival had the highest concentration of hot women I have seen in quite sometime. Compared to Sasquatch 2006, it wasn't even close. You'd see a hot chick maybe once an hour at Sasquatch, at Pemberton you were fucking surrounded on all sides. Then again, I talked with a couple girls, and they commented that there were hot guys everywhere. So I guess just everyone was hot.

So yeah, it was ridiculous up close during NIN. When Closer came on I was getting grinded fucking raw by about half a dozen chicks, it would have been awesome if I wasn't in such a sad state of affairs at that point. Who would have thought booze, weed and mushrooms would mess you up so bad?

As far as NIN's show overall goes, I found it to be pretty much identical to Sasquatch in 2006. Same lighting set up, pretty similar set list with some With Teeth and Year Zero shit dropped for Slip and Ghosts stuff, but still the usual oldies.

We didn't do the shuttle thing, we figured it would be a total clusterfuck. Thank god. Instead we just sat in our car for 3 hours every day and drank, smoked, and had mushroom tea. It was actually pretty fun, but the time would have been better spent in the festival. Every day I said to my group "okay guys, let's get going earlier tomorrow so we can actually catch some of the smaller acts like Death Cab or Matisyahu" and every day we'd leave half an hour later. Kind of pissed me off. They were all like "oh no man, the traffic won't be as bad tomorrow, everyone will have arrived and be staying in the campsite or Pemberton by now" and every day the traffic would be worse. I'd estimate maybe half of the people there stayed in the campground, which means there was 20,000+ trying to get in and out of town on a one lane road every day.

So yeah, they'll have to make some improvements to the highway through Pemberton if they want to avoid that next year. Even adding a second inbound lane a couple kilometers out and through town would have helped considerably, I think. Every day you'd get to about 12-15km out, and bam, parking lot. Thank god the RCMP were fairly cool and not doing random checks on cars, because we were about knee deep in empties by the time we hit the gate.

Bus avoids massive rock slide on B.C. coastal highway

heh, thank god that shit didn't happen 24-36 hours earlier, otherwise I'd say there'd be a couple dozen dead, at least.
