iPod/iTunes help

My friend loaned me his iPod so that I might transfer some songs to it. However, when I try to Sync option, a dialog box indicates that iTunes will erase the iPod during the Sync.

Is there a way to simply transfer my songs to his iPod without erasing his content? I haven't been able to figure it out, and I own neither an iPod nor use iTunes so I would appreciate some help here.

Thanks!

Does the solution in that thread work both ways? Can you drag files into the hidden folders on an IPOD?

I'm pretty sure all you have to do is change a setting so that your iTunes library doesn't try to sync with his iPod upon connection.

You have to switch to manual updating instead of auto synching and autoupdating. Should be plenty of advice online about this.
