| Illegal to copy music from CD to computer? According to the RIAA it is. Quote:
Fuck them. For a long time I stopped downloading music because I felt it was stealing, but this is going too damn far. I am not going to buy shit from record stores until this attack on consumers stops.

| The industry's own Web site says that making a personal copy of a CD that you bought legitimately may not be a legal right, but it "won't usually raise concerns," as long as you don't give away the music or lend it to anyone Obviously copying the CD for personal use is legal..You're purchasing whats on the CD for personal consumption, its format during that consumption is irrelevant. I don't really see how it can be "murky". However, the rest is pretty cut and dry..If you copy a legally purchased CD and then distribute said CD, its infringing on copyright protections..The RIAA isn't stretching here guys, the article is just worded in a way to make it seem absurd, really though, its not. (Though I agree they are screwing themselves.) Edit**Just read the "stealing one copy"..Well, yeah, that is retarded..But the case being shown isn't..The guy copied songs and attempted to distribute them, thats illegal. | Yes, putting us all in the same proverbial coffin. Problem is - all their profits are coming with us.

| So, is Apple going to sue the RIAA or something? Apple can't expect people to buy their music solely from iTunes, and the only way people are going to buy iPods is if they have a choice of ways to put songs onto their iPod (where the songs came from). This is fuckin' ridiculous.

| The funny thing is there is no "set in stone" about this type of thing. They seem to make it up as years go by. It's ok to do this, but not that... it's ok to download this, but not that... that's ok, but this isn't... How many commercials have you seen of download this or that, or tivo this or downlaod this for your phone... Now you have this can't transfer music from a CD you bought to your computer? The RIAA doesn't even no their own laws/rules they make it up as they go. It's a gray area law, which in my book doesn't make it a law. Flat out piracy I understand... but telling people they can't make copies of shit they've already paid for is just fucking stupid. I own an Ipod and I transfered all my albums over to it, which is over 4000 songs. Not sure about you guys but carrying an Ipod and listening to it in the car is a metric shitton easier than carrying around multiple 300disc CD books. Not to mention weighs a ton less ![]() RIAA need to get off their nazi warhorse and /gofuk themselves. This isn't 1940... **Edit: Also, if you read the laws, technically you can't buy movies and then watch them with friends, or play music in public settings (clubs, parties etc) as mentioned RIAA doesn't have a leg to stand on. IIRC, years back it was already confirmed that if you BUY the album or movie you can do what you like with it... make hundreds of copies if you want, as long as you're not making money from it. I'll have to look for this article...
