| Let's see.... If you like guitar acoustic, metal, rock, banjo etc... and no lyrics check out some Buckethead I notice you have TOOL in your list I recommend their 10,000 days album. and on the metal scene Testament - They've been around since '83 they started as thrash metal and over the years got heavier to now they're more of the "death" metal sound. The vocals are good though, not this pussy ass scream/screech into a mic bullshit that so many kids think "metal" is now-a-days. I recommend their LOW album. judging by your list you may like Adema ( I don't but heard some of their shit ) you may like them tho. I have over 800 albums all ranging from acoustic/symphony to heavy metal. PM me if you want more detailed suggestions for music.

+7 Internets | If you like: Post-rock with more going on than Explosions in the Sky You will like: Red Sparowes If you like: M83, Mogwai, a lot of guitar-oriented indie rock You will like: My Bloody Valentine If you like: Tool (oh man tool is so awesum) You will like: Isis (there are bits with those lousy death metal vocals, but more bits without them, so don't let them drive you off.) and also probably Pelican If you like: The Postal Service and Death Cab For Cutie but you don't mind smiling a little bit more than all that You will like: Enon If you want to listen to hip-hop but have too much respect for women: You will like: cLOUDDEAD (or you might not) Last edited by Fog : 12-11-2007 at 10:36 AM. |

+20 Internets | Seconding Pelican, Enon and My Bloody Valentine. I know I'll get shit for this, but I like the bands that were influenced by MBV moreso than MBV. Let us know how it goes and anyone who stumbles across something they like let us know what it was and we can recommend more like that! Isn't networking music fun!? |

+18 Internets | Chiming in to once again thank everyone for their suggestions. At this point I've listened to many of the recommended bands a few times over. Here are my thoughts on what was recommended: Enon's Grass Geyser Carbon Clouds - Not in the same league as The Postal Service. I did not particularly enjoy this album and no tracks stood out. Status: Remains in my playlist for now, for some reason. Letters Letters' Letters Letters - "Meh." My reaction to the album after a few listens. Nothing stands out. Status: Deleted. 65daysofstatic's The Fall of Math - This album started off somewhat strongly, but ultimately it ended up being another beep-boop-static-random-noise Post-Rock album which I so disdain. I did keep Retreat! Retreat! however, as that track is fantastic. Status: Deleted all but Retreat! Retreat! This Will Destroy You's self-titled and Young Mountain - The self-titled album was fairly boring Post-Rock to me. Threads was the only standout. When Young Mountain's Grandfather Clock track played, I was ready to write off the band as being "meh." Then I listened to the rest of the album and fell utterly in love. My god, Young Mountain is absolutely amazing, and is the closest any Post-Rock album has come to Caspian's The Four Trees. Absolutely fantastic. Status: Listen to Young Mountain on a near daily basis. MGMT's Oracular Spectacular - Good album. All the tracks are worthy of a listen and it has a few standouts. Time to Pretend, Electric Feel, and Kids in particular are excellent. Status: A keeper. Hot Chip's The Warning - "Meh." Nothing really stands out. Status: Probably will delete the album soon. This Is Your Captain Speaking's Storyboard - Boring Post-Rock with most tracks consisting of a 4:1 ratio of coma-inducing slow music for a weak payoff, if it ever comes. Status: Remains in my playlist for the time being, but I usually skip it over. Red Sparowes' At The Soundless Dawn - Better than the above, but not my style of Post-Rock (too much like Mogwai). Status: In my playlist for now. Peter Bjorn and John's Falling Out and Writer's Block - I didn't enjoy either album in particular. Can't recall any tracks as being particularly noteworthy, which makes these albums OK at best. Status: Remains in my playlist. Panda Bear's Person Pitch - It took a long time for Animal Collective's Strawberry Jam to not be complete crap to me, so I'm giving this album repeated chances. Right now, I don't find any tracks to be all that appealing. Status: Remains in my list. Pelican's Australasia - Not my style of Post-Rock at all. This is effectively uninteresting heavy-metal sans vocals. Status: Deleted. Battles' Mirrored - Not sure why I still have this album in my list, I skip almost every track when it comes up in rotation. Boring and repetitive. Not for me. Status: In my playlist, but I'll likely delete it soon. Burial's Untrue - The worst album I've downloaded in recent memory. There is nothing about this album I like. If I wanted to listen to BORING ASS LOOPS for 5 goddamn minutes, I'd listen to cheap techno and not this shit. Status: Deleted. Of Montreal's Hissing Fauna, Are You The Destroyer? - Not a fan of this album. Only one track is good, that being The Past is a Grotesque Animal. Not a fan of the singing, not a fan of the music. Status: A few more chances before I delete it. LCD Soundsystem's Sound of Silver - This album has been receiving a ton of love on Pitchfork but I found myself ambivalent towards most of its tracks. However, it contains two stunningly good tracks, which you've already correctly guessed as All My Friends and the phenomenal Someone Great. Status: Keeping. | Check out Royksopp. You might have heard one of their songs on the Geico commercials. They're pretty stellar, especially the song they have with that chick from The Knife, What Else is There. Seriously, probably one of the ten best songs I've ever heard. I know you said no bleeps and blips, and this is an electronic duo, but they're really good. |

+15 Internets | My collection was very, very similar to yours (stuff I've gleaned off FoH, mostly from Ham, over the years, with a lot of my own personal ish mixed in). Time wore on and I just felt like something was missing from it all. It took a long while to click, but after some searching and speaking with friends, I realized that my collection was lacking meat and potatoes music - the classics - just downright good shit that transcends genres, music that everyone can love. Balance will do any set of music justice. These are the groups/bands I've picked up recently that have really diversified and brought out a different side to my musical taste. Some of them are obvious, some not-so-much. You bounce the music you have right now off songs from these artists and the rebound is amplified twofold. Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young People Under the Stairs Peter Tosh Fleetwood Mac Bob Marley 311 Frank Zappa Dylan The Roots Widespread Panic Bowie John Frusciante Immortal Technique Aesop Rock Cream Just a couple of suggestions there (yes, there is some rap in there, but listen to People, Immortal, and Aesop - seriously) |

| Someone recommended Isis and Pelican. If you like those I would recommend Neurosis. Specifically Through Silver and Blood. The singing might be too growly for your taste, but I think they are the best from that genre. I actually read your last post to find that you didn't like Pelican so nevermind. I agree that Pelican is kinda boring, but I doubt Neurosis would be any more your style. I don't know, you might like Sicbay - Suspicious Icons, which is kinda post-rock like. I can't imagine that anyone would dislike Karma to Burn - Wild Wonderful Purgatory if you are into kinda southern rock. Last edited by T-rex : 01-13-2008 at 06:56 PM. |
