New Slayer is okay at best. Sounds pretty much the same as Christ Illusion, meaning they ripped off their own riffs from previous records and made some songs. Anything after Seasons... is non-essential.

I choose to remember this Slayer:

Ya, I'd say the new slayer is the best they've done since Divine Intervention (and I didn't even really like that album that much). But that's not saying much considering the stuff they've put out since.

Went to heathenfest last night in NYC, was pretty awesome. The female singer in Eluvietie was somewhat sick or something, so they didn't do any of the acoustic album (thankfully). Pretty much played Slania in it's entirety live. But I have no idea how I'd never really heard of Alestorm. Those guys were awesome.

Any fans of Basilisk? Maybe these vocals to refresh your memory:

He's now doing some strange post punk/pop/black metal vocals/Amesoeurs type band, it's not bad... though I wish he stuck with black metal.

Any chance anyone has a link to the album?

Alestorm sounds a lot better than the other pirate metal band I heard a while ago called Swashbuckle. Any decent instrumental they have going is trod upon by their silly gimmick, cartoony artwork and shit-poor lyrics.

Quote:
Party boat, party boat, party boat, vacation on the seas.

We are swashbuckle!
We sunk Titanic!!!
WE STOLE YOUR SHIT!
I can't tell if their trying to be serious, silly or just ride off the novelty factor. As far as I'm concerned they can fuck off.

Another instrumental artist for anyone that is interested, Keith Merrow.

I saw this band tonight at the Hatebreed show and HOLY SHIT were they fucking HORRIBLE. They looked like 4th graders up there trying to do their best tough guy poses. Hate Eternal was good and Cannibal Corpse was awesome as usual. Didn't bother with Hatebreed, not my thing.

My contribution for today, so more old school thrash:

To me, thats kind of a weird line up for Born of Osiris to tour with. Almost every tour seems to have at least 1 band that's like the odd man out and has totally different fans. I know what you mean about the tough guy stuff, but thats just their style and fits into their niche fan base. But, if they just sounded really crappy, i can't defend that

obligatory metal:
