| Another indie rock thread So, I was out of the new music stuff for a little while, internet problems and what not. Started doing some catchup and came across a few decent ones. Minus the Bear, not exactly new, they've been talked about in this forum a lot. But, I finally managed to get the majority of their stuff through soulseek and I likey. They have the occasional REALLY good song, and then a few that mesh together and don't stand out but aren't 'bad' per se. Pachuca Sunrise off their newest album Menos El Oso is possibly my favorite song by them. Somewhat chill, but not the kind of chill that you might want to fall asleep to (ala pinback, who I like though, just saying). Their song titles on Highly Refined Pirates are hilarious if you get any of the references. Arctic Monkeys. Whatever people say I am thats what I am notThis is bleeding edge new, the album doesn't drop for a few weeks. They are like a less wankerish, heavier version of the Libertines. I expect "I bet you look good on the dancefloor" to get some radio play.. maybe it already is in the UK. I'm liking them so far. The Subways. Young for EternityReleased back in July, but I've not seen them mentioned much anywhere before and I'm surprised, maybe I just missed it. "Rock n Roll Queen" is the obvious single, so might want to start there. But, it gets old and other songs on the album such as "Mary" and "I want to hear what you have got to say" start sounding better after a few listens. Somewhere in the gene pool of 1 part Vines, 1 part Von Bondies, 1 part Razorlight, and 1 part New Pornographers. |

+15 Internets | The only thing "new" I'm listening to is probably Tegan & Sara: reminds me of mates of state/new pornographers with a little bit of rilo kiley. http://www.myspace.com/teganandsara (I recommend walking with a ghost and i won't be left from this link) two others I don't know if you listen to final fantasy: if you like andrew bird, arcade fire, elliott smith, look no further. http://www.myspace.com/finalfantasyeternal (please please please and the cn tower belongs to the dead are my favorites but the entire album is A+ imo) phoenix - great upbeat sounds even with not so upbeat lyrics a lot of time. great underrated band. http://www.wearephoenix.com/ (alphabetical and united are both amazing albums - person favorite songs are "too young", "everything is everything" and "if i ever feel better") Quote:
edit: added links

| was waiting for you to respond Ham. Phoenix rocks, had Alphabetical for awhile and love it. 'Everything is Everything' is just an awesome song. Will try to remember to check out the other 2 you mentioned. Also, I need to hear this Mates of States, heard you mention them a few times. I've been running soulseek a lot lately. I play poker online and queue up new music to download whenever I'm home for a bit. I might need to update some firewall settings, as I have not seen any of my friends list online yet. |

+15 Internets | You've probably told me you've heard these before but I have a bad memory A.C. Newman The Dears Cursive (just incase) teenage fanclub The Stills the moldy peaches maximo park The Good Life (not a huge fan, but a lot of people like them) we are scientists do you like mogwai or m83? If so you should listen to explosions in the sky and the appleseed cast. if you're in the mood for upbeat dance stuff ever check out mirwais and scissor sisters. I only have 2 mates of state albums on my comp right now (one being the newest one) but I'll get on soulseek tonight.

| The Javelins, came across their EP some time last year. Really good stuff, it's called No Plants, Just Animals. My favourite song is called Two Sided Fame. Some of their stuff can be found here: http://www.myspace.com/javelins Explosions in the Sky is awesome, but I hardly think it counts as indie. If you like them, and haven't already, get Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think, Mono, Set Fire to Flames.... Last edited by thorn : 02-13-2006 at 02:54 PM. |

| i think eits actually does count as indie... indie=independant, as in not on a major label. indie rock is one thing(eits is more ambience type stuff than rock imo so maybe that's what you meant..), but all indie in general has the same basic idea; recording/releasing and stuff with a DIY attitude |

| You're right, I just equate indie with indie-rock these days. The term usually used for bands like EITS, GY!BE, Mogwai etc is postrock, as hated a label as any, but still pretty good to describe the sound in my opinion. ![]() |
