Indie.

so let's hear what you got.

here are some bands I think anyone into indie should appreciate:

Gospel
Orchid
Saetia
Hot Cross
Dance Danse El Capitan
Mass Movement of the Moth
Funeral Diner
Welcome the Plague Year
Genghis Tron
Plot to Blow up the Eiffel Tower
Jeer at Rome
Kodan Armada
View of a Burning City
Elsamort
Circle Takes The Square
Typhoon
Panic
Flowers in the Attic
The Author
Jonbenet
Kaospilot

I have albums by pretty much all of these and more if anyone is interested, my soulseek is 'slipz'. if anyone else is into this kind of music and could just list some bands that'd be nice.

January's Debut album by "Arctic Monkeys" is really a good listen. Seen them live last year and had a great time.

Great list, lots of stuff I haven't heard yet. I'm eager to check it out.

I've been rocking out to The Boy Least Likely To lately, but my friends say that stopped being hip last summer. Why must all my friends be scenesters.

Glad someone finds it helpful, here's some more in that case:

The Holy Shroud
Capital Tragedy
Joshua Fit For Battle
Kite Flying Society
The One AM Radio
Ampere
Conduit
Wether
Racebannon
Everett
City of Catepillar
Transistor Transistor

once again all can be found on soulseek from me, knock yourselves out

Arctic Monkeys suck in my opinion, just too generic for me and TBLLT isn't bad.

Clap Your Hands
Feist
Final Fantasy
Animal Collective
Okkervil River
Say Hi to Your Mom
Stars

Edit* I like how instead of having a discussion indie fans would rather list their bands. I did it too, oh well.

sorry, I was just more on the look out for more music than huge indepth discussions on why a band is/isn't shitty.

I got through 75% of the first list then stopped. Nothing remotely decent sounding to me. Goodbye thread

it's an acquired taste i believe

(esp if you don't like screaming/weird vocals)

I got to agree with Plaid, I'm dissapointed. I made it through most the list and didn't like any of it. I know indie is a stupid, ill-defined genre, but those bands were in a whole 'nother category.

sorry, I guess - when I think indie I think of bands on releasing their records on independant labels and most of it just happens to be more defined as 'screamo' when it comes down to it, but I didn't think a thread with bands like this would be too popular anyhow.

oh well.

Send a message via Yahoo to Zhavric
There's a radio station in Columbus called CD101 that has a two hour-long show every week called The Independent Playground. Check it out. You can listen online.

Well if you didnt like eXarc's choices mine are pretty different. I think for the most part they are more easily accessable. Okkervil River being a little more rock, Feist being pretty folky pop, and Animal Collective is just strange for most people.

The more lists we get on this thread the more "tastes" we get. Like you said Indie is not really a genre so there are pretty different groups all being labeled that way.

The Burdocks put on a great show but I'm really not sure if the world wants another band like them.

Jill Barber wins my heart in the same way that Feist does. Check out Julie Doiron too if you're into that sound.

SS Cardiacs have been touring North America lately and are back in Halifax for a bit so I've been soaking in one of there shows every couple weeks.
