Spin: Band of the Year

http://www.spin.com/bandoftheyear/

http://www.spin.com/community/forums...pic.php?t=5721

So they have like an NCAA thing with bands. I am gona bet Bloc Party or Motion City Soundtrack wins because they seem to be the most popular around the college crowd. Alexisonfire, Clap Your Hands, Feist should win though.

Although I hear Goblin Cock is looking to make a come from behind victory

K, I am by no means a musical hermit or anything, but I have not heard of 90% of the bands listed.

me either. Panic! At the disco, Bloc Party, The Cribs and Motion City Soundtrack are like the only ones I've listened to at all. I like them all too. Well, I listened to Art Brut a little, but they shouldn't be anywhere near the list of Band of Year. I've also heard of MC Chris, but never listened to him.

these are bands that got a lot of support online from loyal fans. I dont know if Spin purposefully left bands like Coldplay, Foo Fighters and Greenday out. None of those bands should be on the list but I figure they have the largest fan base.

Well isn't this a rookie of the year type award? Or, in a few cases where they had their first albums before, this was the year they broke onto the mainstream (sort of). If so, that's a good reason they didn't include Coldplay et al..

I would never claim to be a super underground uber music guru(tm) (See Wikipedia Article), but I have a pretty good radar for up and comming bands, even really underground stuff as thats where I've always gone for new music since I was a kid. When you get down to the local level, of course I'm only really aware of the bands in my immediate area (which is the New England / Boston scene) but that list is fucking rediculous. That list is a list of fucking nobodies with the few rare exceptions like bloc party and motion city. This shit is simply a fucking cock pounding circle jerk for the Spin music douche bags described earlier as well as a vehicle to suck Bloc Party / MSS cock. Basically this is a digital fag fest, they might as well just post a collection of screenshots from the fucking Shanghai Meat Factory and call it a day.

Huh, Mc Chris? Didn't expect that one. Him and Bloc party are the only 2 on that list I could care about.

leslie feist is also in broken social scene, sings a good many of the songs off the self titled and does lover's spit off beehives.

if you have sirius radio they play the majority of those bands on left of center #26 everyday. wolf parade is pretty damn good in my opinion.

Spin is such a fucking joke.

I listen to half those bands and I still think the poll is bullshit.

Yes, MC Chris is MC Peepants.

I suggest checking out "Fett's Vette" on his website. Timeless.
