Tool advice

I have heard many good things both here and by my friends, and was wondering if anyone could give me their top ten songs so I can download them and make a cd.

In no particular order:

Stinkfist
Aenima
Pushit (live version I guess... both work)
46 & 2
Sweat
Sober
Prison Sex
The Grudge
The Patient
Reflection

That's more of a Tool starter pack rather than their "best" songs.

How about instead you fucking pay for one of their albums?

Not to mention, Tool's music is much much better if listened to in sequence of the album. Or at least that applies for Aenima and Lateralus.

start at the beginning.

Opiate is still their best album period.
Undertow is very good, but...
Aenima is just a bit better.
Lateralus is so so.

And fucking pay for the fucking songs jeez.

Well see, this way he can decide whether or not he likes them before dropping some cash on it.

When my friend suggested that I listen to radiohead, I downloaded some of their songs, then bought every single one of their albums. I have been told Tool is similar and that I would like them. However, I am not just going to blindly go out and buy their albums without seeing if I like them or not. That is just plain stupid.

.

Although different in most aspects, I feel Tool carries a lot more talent than Radiohead as a whole. Tool is just fucking great.

Start off with the song " Maynard's Dick "

Then work your way through Lateralus and Aenima, and go backwards from there.

That's definately the best way to scour through Tool and realize the diversity and talent that lies within.

I've only heard Lateralus, and I really liked it.

Ticks and Leeches/Parabola are brilliant.

All of their albums are excellent but I personally enjoy Opiate and Aenima the most, and I think many people would agree with me on that.

1. Reflection
2. H
3. Stinkfist
4. Pushit
5. Aenema
6. Lateralus
7. Schism
8. Eulogy
9. 46 & 2
10. The Grudge
11. Disposition
12. Parabol
13. Parabola
14. Jimmy
15. Prison Sex

No particular order there, you cant have just 10, and 15 is cutting out some great songs too. My personal favorite tool song of all time is Reflection.

First tool cd i ever listened to was lateralus, I thought it friggen owned. I then went out and bought aenima. At first I didn't like it for some reason, but then I threw it in my car and really listened to it, and it owned me.

There isn't a song I don't like on both cd's

Haha, if you only knew how strong that statement refers to Tool. Right on, bud.

Go buy all the albums, now... Maynard said so.

I'd strongly recommend downloading an entire album off a torrent site first and listen to the whole thing at once. There's a definite progression in style from album to album.

Opiate: Fairly raw, more metalish.

Undertow: More produced, still very metalish, a bit more melodic than Opiate.

Aenima: Tool turns prog. If you can wade through long introductions and depth of the record, it's much more satisfying. Definite "weirder" than either of the first two albums. I actually like it best of all their albums.

Lateralus: A bit more prog rock than Aenima. Harder basslines, even a bit more ferocious. Definitely an album you need to listen to in its entirety to really appreciate the progression.

Salival: Their "live" album with new versions of songs from various albums. Also includes the best cover I've EVER heard in music, Led Zeppelin's "No Quarter." Maynard's Dick is pretty funny too. Skip to about 7:30 on that track for the actual song.

New album sometime early next year. $$

All of Tool's songs lie somewhere between Hush and Reflection. If you like those two songs, you'll like the rest most likely.
