Producers now have to pay to sample

http://www.mtv.com/news/articles/149...headlines=true

=/

So, now producers have to pay for any music that they sample. What this also means is that there will most likely be a lot less "artistic" (for a lack of a better word) music coming out of the hip hop community, and a lot more electronica sounding beats.

Your thoughts? And please, no "omg rap is for dumb black people" responses.

Big deal. Ive made over 230 sample beats on Fruity Loops. Not hard, they have a decent sound to them and not too complicated. Can put them in 8, 16 4/4 bars without a problem.

I think it's a shame personally. I like little snippets of old songs tied in with new song. but then again Paul's boutique is one of my favorite albums ever.

Hmm, i thought already had to pay to use a sample of a song. I remember when Vanilla Ice got in trouble for using the beat that sounded like Under Pressure in Ice Ice Baby and he swore that it wasn't.
"His beat is do do do DO do, while ours is do do DUH do do" or something like that, lol. Anyhow, they tried to sue him for using it so i figured all samples were supposed to be paid for.

/shrug, hopefull this will end P.Diddy's career in music, lol

Awesome; now people with talent get paid when others shamelessly rip them off.

Potam. Fruity loops is one of a few industry standard for making trance, hip hop , break beat music. I find it fun making beats you do in your head and put them on a program and have them sound preety decent. Also burning your own shit and listening to it in your cd player while you drive.

Jimmy. Fruity loops is NOT an industry standard. I've heard of ONE producer that actually used it. Plus, what in the holy fuck did that have to do with the topic?

a few artists use Fruity actually, although I am having a hard time thinking of them, but I think Reason gets quite a bit more use then FL does for commerical-quality stuff.

I doubt they even use Reason.

I'd lean towards a Korg Triton, Yamaha Motif, or Roland Fantom.

Or a Casio SK-1. Wootz

I've always said that Jay Z should pay for what he did to The Clash.
