Best Covers

Cover songs. We love the good ones and dispise the bad ones. What are some of your all time favorite cover songs. I'm looking for studio recordings that bands have actually released not rarities or live performances.

Some of my favorites...

Moby: New Dawn Fades (Joy Divison cover)
Ugly Kid Joe: Cats in the Cradle (Harry Chapin cover)
Anthrax: Got the Time (Joe Jackson cover)
Kiss: 2000 Man (Rolling Stones cover)
Queensryche: Scarborough Fair (Simon and Garfunkel cover)
Megadeth: Paranoid (Black Sabbath cover)
Metallica: Breadfan (Budgie cover)
Metallica: Stone Cold Crazy (Queen cover)
Nine Inch Nails: Dead Souls (Joy Division cover)
Orgy: Blue Monday (New Order cover)
Faith No More: War Pigs (Black Sabbath cover)
Primus: Have a Cigar (Pink Floyd cover)
Voivod: Astronomy Domine (Pink Floyd cover)
The Tea Party: Paint it Black (Rolling Stones cover)
1000 Homo DJs: Supernaut (Black Sabbath cover)

My personal favorite cover would be Throwdown: Baby Got Back.

Other good ones are:
A Perfect Circle - The Nurse Who Loved Me (originally by Failure) Since it's on their album it counts, but it only truly comes into form when they perform it live.

Nirvana - Where Did You Sleep Last Night (originally by Leadbelly)

Rage Against The Machine - Pistol Grip Pump (originally by Volume 10?) There's lots of good covers on the Renegades Album.

Shinedown - Simple Man (originally by Lynyrd Skynyrd) I never would have thought anyone could do VanZant justice, but this guy can really sing.

Tool - Pushit (originally performed by... Tool) I'm referring to the version of the song on the Salival Album. It's so different(and so much better) than the original I figure you could call it a cover of their own song?

Stabbing Westward - Bizarre Love Triangle (originaly by New Order)

Gary Jules - Mad World (originally by Tears for Fears)

And there's probably a bunch of beatles songs I'm forgetting about.

*edit* forgot a few

Johnny Cash covered NIN.

Funny, Sevendust recently covered hurt as well but the bums gave props to Johnny Cash at the end instead of Trent.

As for best cover...Mr. Bungle playing Mario songs!!!

Well, Trent Reznor himself has said the song is no longer his, that it more or less belongs to Cash. *shrug*

And what the fuck, Avril covered SOAD's Chop Suey!?

A guy at work played it for me. If you want to hear the most god aweful noise imaginable, download it. She even forgets the words like halfway through.

That LB cover isn't bad, I like it. Downloading that AL song now due to curiousity. I can't imagine how bad it's going to be.

edit update: holy shit, this is seriously the worst shit I've ever heard. And she actually does forget the words.

In terms of good covers, there is a mp3 out there of SoAD doing Blink 182's Dammit acoustically, and it actually turns out damn good.

Also, if you can find any of the mp3's from Aaron Lewis of Staind doing his acoustic shows, it's some good stuff. I saw him in Atlantic City, and he played some pretty random shit. A lot of classic rock, some Pearl Jam, Aerosmith, etc. Was a really good show.
