| Beastie Boys - To the 5 Boroughs Anyone listened to this yet? MTV.com had it up for listen on "The Leak" part of thier site (might still be up, dunno) and I was wonderin what other people's thoughts were on this. Me, i was rather disappointed with this album. I'm not one for rap, but i've always dug the Beasties for being above the norm of rap. However, this new album had a few catchy tunes, but a lot of the songs sound similar. I'm also really tired of all the politcal songs i've heard and seen on tv lately, and this album had a few anti-government songs, which, imo, took away from the songs. I can't recall any of the previous albums where they had a political song, just nice, groovy tunes to chill out to and have a good time. They always kept thier beliefs out of the music. Also, they didn't do any instrumental songs, which they had on previous albums. A lot of songs sound like Hello Nasty and the album just seemed to be released quickly by just revamping some Hello Nasty songs and putting some politcal lyrics over it. Anyone else have some comments? I'm not a huge Beastie's fan, but i have had all there albums at one point. This is the first one that i've been disappointed in. |

+31 Internets | In Canada it doesn't do any silent install, but when you put it in it instantly asks permission to "modify files on your computer". Just hit no and you are free to copy it. One thing I found though, is that that type of copy protection actually DOES sorta work on older drives. My burner, which is about 2 or 3 years old, can't rip the first track, but it can get the rest fine. But a newer DVD drive does it up fine. Kinda annoying. As far as the CD goes, it's alright I guess. I have never been that big of a fan of Beastie Boys, but at the same time I bought Licensed to Ill when I was like 7. This is the first album I have bought of theirs on CD, come to think of it. It's alright, nothing great. Some of the songs are really catchy. And sometimes I wonder why they couldn't have spent another 30 minutes looking for a better rhyme. How many times an album do they need to say "I rock well" or "rap well" or something similar? I haven't given it a whole lot of listening, but so far it's decent enough. |

| I really enjoy Hello Nasty, though it took a bit to grow on me. 5 Boroughs hasn't hit anything with me yet unfortunately. Not to mention, I would think after 6 years they'd have come up with enough music to fill a CD... 42 minutes, averaging less than 3 minutes a song is quite disappointing.

| I've probably been looking forward to this more than any other release so far this year. I dig the single, so hopefully the rest of the album is good. I'm planning on actually buying it because I like to have the full package for bands I really like. |

| eh, they actually play musical instruments on some of thier albums. I've always enjoyed the fact that they never really took themselves seriously, and i thought it came across in thier music. Just 3 normal white guys acting stupid and doin something sorta tongue in cheek which i always liked. I've always been a metalhead, but always had a spot for the beasties. This album is just way to serious and short. Not there usual stuff considering they hadn't made an album in quite a few years. I didn't care that much for Hello Nasty either really. |

| I mean I can jam to Fight for Your Right to Party (or whatever the correct name for it is) as easily as the next man, but stuff like that latest "Blah blah blah, blahblah check it out, cmon, cmon, blahblah check it out, check it out, cmon blah check it out, skeet deedley eet check it out" shit makes my head hurt. |

+31 Internets | I find on the album that the music and beats themselves are a TON more interesting than the lyrics. God they are bad rappers. "I ain't no roach, I just bought my grandma a new broach" What in the fuck? They should hook up with a real rapper and just make the beats and music, me thinks. |

+1 Internets | Personally, I just listen to the Beastie Boys to the sound in general. Truthfully, if you are listening to rap for profound lyrics and meaningful content (ok, it IS there sometimes... but that isn't the point), then you're cut. Rap for me is just a fun genre... sounds good, makes me feel good. Moral of this story? This CD isn't bad. I was expecting shit, but it actually is pretty good. |

| heh I never bought all of their cd's , I just bought anthology , and I liked that well enough , its like all their good stuff, without the crappy tracks , and had a good booklet in it too. Thats pretty much the sum of what I think about the Beastie Boys, they have a lot of tracks that I like but its always like 3 or 4 tracks on a cd that I like , and the rest I'm pretty much indifferent to. Also a lot of people won't get their rap style , because a lot of its sorta based on that old school 80's style , with a beat box and Run Dmc , etc. The sound really hasn't changed in the last 20 years they've been around, well once they got out of their 'hardcore phase' they started in at least |
