| Really fucking tired of these 'angry' punk bands... Good Charlotte, The Used, AFI, Simple Plan, etc. I don't even no where to begin they piss me off so much. What they sing about- having to listen to them bitch and complain about how sucky their lives and fathers were, or how all the girls rejected them, or "to all the kids who got picked last in gym class". Everything about how life sucks. If their lives suck so bad they need to see a doctor or the chamber of a shotgun because they are clogging up precious airtime. Don't torture us because you haven't found the reality that everyone's life sucks. The clothes- is your ADD that bad that you feel that getting attention requires you to dress like a circus clown? Or do your clothes represent something? I look at hippies and I think that atleast they did represent something. They represented peace, love, sex, drugs, etc. You are just a sad attempt at getting attention. I'm so sick of people begging me to look at them because they have 10 inch spikes of hair, ugly makeup, and that stupid kid in my school who wears a DRESS with what looks to be army boots (a he I think). If you feel so shitty about yourself and your life, why don't you do something constructive or useful because it will make you feel better about yourself. Play a sport, read a book (I don't condone this), get a job, or volunteer. Quit adding to this world's polution problems. I posted this on rash thought because right now I'm pretty 'angry'. Maybe if I throw on some ugly ass make up and clothes someone will notice me.

| I have to agree with you. But think about if they played the stuff I liked....HateBreed, Mindless self indulgence, Hed pe etc etc etc the radio stations would lose money, that whiny punk music is for disillussioned fake skateboarders and teen chicks who think the punk image is sexy. They don't give a crap if it sounds bad, if it sells and gets people listening to their radio station for ratings, they will sure as hell play it. Punk pop, Pop, Rap, R&b will for quite awhile dominate the billboard and the radio charts. Live with it and change the station.

| Punk is way gay. Cant stand it. So overdone and mainstream...which is the antithesis of what real punk once was. Punk was not a sound...it was an attitude and philosophy of life. Theres nothing bold, daring or even dangerous about 99% of the bands out there right now. |

| Punk is the Clash and the Dead Kennedys and the Sex Pistols, I guess I'd call Good Charlotte and all those bands... currently profitable?

| I think the whole idea of punk music is lost on too many kids today. Punk music used to be about presenting a problem and looking for solution, not complaining and whining about pointless personal bullshit. That's what bands like Hall and Oates were for. But to tell you the truth, I could look past that if all these new punk / rock / metal bands today would just STOP FUCKING CRYING! Why the hell are you trying to play "heavy" music, only to top it off with some asshole sighing and wimpering and whining into a microphone? From fucking Korn to Trapt (which has to be one of the shittiest names I've ever seen... why not just call yourself Stupt, you fucking retards), every time I turn on the radio all I hear is some asshole crying about dumb ass shit. What I wouldn't give to see Iggy, Lemmy, and Chronos go on a serial-throat-punching spree at this years' MTV Video Music awards. Now THAT would be entertainment. |

If you think those are real punk bands and not cultural ambassadors or celebrities, perhaps you ought to talk to their "managers." Of course, exclude DK from that because that was all DIY, but Sex Pistols? Pff. Some dude plucks a gutter retard out of a squat and makes him sing, removes the original bassist because they had the wrong "image" etc... barely play instruments and spew politically charged tripe. It's funny because of how obviously an commercial "anti-commercial" venture it all turns into. Y'know, kinda like how raging against the machine requires you to utilize and profit from the machine. | |

I think the connection is legitimate in a lot of cases, but not all. The only thing I really know about AFI is that they did a mad shitty cover of One Last Caress.

| lol- I don't think you're understanding one bit. Punk was about not conforming and not living within the system, and you say you know that, but yet you say the SEX PISTOLS!? were punk? The Sex Pistols were put together by a manager, none of them knew each other, and it was a simple revolutionary music movement to get people to rebel against the things that they said they didnt like. Sid Vicious was a scrubby no life, who had the image of a "Punker" so they picked him up, knowing he had no idea how to play the bass, And you have fuckers like Johnny Rotten who have this unbelieveabley whiney voice who thinks he's so hardcore, but actually just a skinny prick who has no sense of reality what so ever. They were an ABC televised band, Get over it. same with the clash, Televised Punk rock, Sold out, They were never punk. I don't really care about the lyrics they wrote, they didn't mean it, if they meant it, they wouldnt of been on ABC and CBS. Dead Kennedys lyrics were about absolutely fucking nothing, and had no point into any of their songs, The only song that somewhat makes sense is California Uber Alles. so before you really open your mouth to speak about punk rock, dont say "trace back the roots, thats real punk, when they didnt care about clothing and all that bullshit", because guess what, AFI was around for like, 10 fucking years before they sold out lol. It's called a retirement fund, They could of made it onto MTV any time they wanted, But now they are probably thinking about being done with music and settling down, and what better way to do that, then sell out and get a TON of fucking money and never have to work a single day in their life. If you want to talk about whos REALLY punk, perhaps you should think about Operation Ivy, Minor Threat, or Choking victim, Perhaps even Leftover Crack. Operation Ivy wasn't even KNOWN when they were together, but when they broke up, Their fame exploded, and now they're mainstream without even being together. Minor Threat, They were like 17 years old, and made the straight edge movement what it is today, enforceful lyrics and also screaming them with passion of hatred towards what they felt was right. all Sex pistols and the clash did was preach to everyone, and everyone thought that was so hardcore and punk. But these bands I listed, didn't even have to preach. They wrote and people came and listened to them, they werent put together by a manager, they were all 17 year old kids. As for Choking Victim, They were 16-17 years old when they first came out, and they are STILL together in the same band 6 years later. which is known as Leftover crack, and happen to be homeless and live in an abandoned building in NYC, you want to talk about dedication of not conforming to the government? Try being homeless and living in an abandoned building, WHILE playing music and getting a record deal- and then shortly after making a record company, but yet STILL manage to not buy a house and still live in that Squat. That's punk rock my friends. and whats even more sad, is I dont even like punk anymore, i just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents and give you guys a fucking clue, cause it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about. Crass actually even talks about The Clash and The Sex Pistols. but most of you probably never heard of Crass, because you were to busy soaking up Clash's popularity on the Television. Think before you speak. |
