| Speaking of which, with your permission, I'd like to save that reply and plaster it all over every message board where some little kid tries to tell me that being poor and shaving/coloring your hair makes you punk.

| Feel free. Anyone who denies Johnny Cash's punkness is a fucking poseur. The best part is when I go to a show and it turns out to be all ages (ugh) and the stupid fucking teen safety pin punks throw dirty looks my way as I drink newcastle. Then the band starts up and they dedicate their first song to Satan and point to me. Having to explain to new roommates that any phone calls for satan are not crank calls is some comedy. Offends the hell out of the bible thumpers, and I think that's why the bastards started calling me it. I'm also a big fan of ending conversations about truly great music that someone bitches about (Beethoven, Ella, etc) with "Not liking the Mona Lisa says a lot more about you than Da Vinci's skill as a painter." | I wouldn't lump Good charlotte and simple plan with AFI and The Used... Good Charlotte, Simple Plan, Sum 41, newer Blink 182, etc is all fucking gay imo. They all just want to be number one on TRL or whatever it is. But, music like AFI and The Used is nothing even close if you ask me. They might whine a little bit, but most of it is pretty solid.

| .. the best thing about "punk" kids is they only like bands to get attention. THey wanna like "different" bands so they can be in their own esoteric group.. or something.. ONe of my friends is like that.. he used to LOVE the ataris.. he sent mea f ew of their songs 2 years ago and i liked them.. they were nice. now that the ataris came out with a song that is REALLY popular.. he hates them.. they somehow "sold" out.... however when i listen to that song it sounds identicle to the one he sent me a few years ago.. of course with different lyrics... he just wants to be able tos ay that the band he liked isdifferent then the band everyone else likes... its retarded and really pisses me off... He will buy cloths that look identicle to name brand, but not name brand.. just so he can bitch about name brand cloths wearers... god forbid he like ANY television show that others do as well.. why cant people stop worrying about being "different" and just be themselves! |

| I can't remember if I hate you or like you Lenaldo, but I completely agree with what you've said here. My friend is like that .. he believes the soul of punk music is doing your own thing and not caring about what anyone else thinks, but then as soon as something becomes popular they're sellouts (read: AFI). I recently saw him completely change the clothes he wears because everyone he hangs out with was wearing different clothes, too. Plaid is in, black suit pants are out! It's all bullshit. But I know him well enough to know he does it for the chicks, which is a completely respectable aproach. |

| I'm sorry, correct me if i'm wrong but worrying about what will become of the "punk movement" and where it came from just isn't really punk at all... Who really gives a fuck? Anyone who trys to define punk with a clear cut definition is never going to capture what it is. If you hafta sit down and talk about it to decide if it consitutes "punk", it isn't. Real punk will always be around, it's next mainstream incarnation is just waiting to be drawn from it and commercialized by the enemy like a sick, ironic joke.

+14 Internets | Word to what dak said. I'm not into punk, personally, but I know it when I hear it, and neopunk is pure shit. True punk will always be around, whether anyone buys it or not. |
