lol- I don't think you're understanding one bit. Punk was about not conforming and not living within the system, and you say you know that, but yet you say the SEX PISTOLS!? were punk? The Sex Pistols were put together by a manager, none of them knew each other, and it was a simple revolutionary music movement to get people to rebel against the things that they said they didnt like. Sid Vicious was a scrubby no life, who had the image of a "Punker" so they picked him up, knowing he had no idea how to play the bass, And you have fuckers like Johnny Rotten who have this unbelieveabley whiney voice who thinks he's so hardcore, but actually just a skinny prick who has no sense of reality what so ever. They were an ABC televised band, Get over it. same with the clash, Televised Punk rock, Sold out, They were never punk. I don't really care about the lyrics they wrote, they didn't mean it, if they meant it, they wouldnt of been on ABC and CBS. Dead Kennedys lyrics were about absolutely fucking nothing, and had no point into any of their songs, The only song that somewhat makes sense is California Uber Alles. so before you really open your mouth to speak about punk rock, dont say "trace back the roots, thats real punk, when they didnt care about clothing and all that bullshit", because guess what, AFI was around for like, 10 fucking years before they sold out lol. It's called a retirement fund, They could of made it onto MTV any time they wanted, But now they are probably thinking about being done with music and settling down, and what better way to do that, then sell out and get a TON of fucking money and never have to work a single day in their life. If you want to talk about whos REALLY punk, perhaps you should think about Operation Ivy, Minor Threat, or Choking victim, Perhaps even Leftover Crack. Operation Ivy wasn't even KNOWN when they were together, but when they broke up, Their fame exploded, and now they're mainstream without even being together. Minor Threat, They were like 17 years old, and made the straight edge movement what it is today, enforceful lyrics and also screaming them with passion of hatred towards what they felt was right. all Sex pistols and the clash did was preach to everyone, and everyone thought that was so hardcore and punk. But these bands I listed, didn't even have to preach. They wrote and people came and listened to them, they werent put together by a manager, they were all 17 year old kids. As for Choking Victim, They were 16-17 years old when they first came out, and they are STILL together in the same band 6 years later. which is known as Leftover crack, and happen to be homeless and live in an abandoned building in NYC, you want to talk about dedication of not conforming to the government? Try being homeless and living in an abandoned building, WHILE playing music and getting a record deal- and then shortly after making a record company, but yet STILL manage to not buy a house and still live in that Squat. That's punk rock my friends. and whats even more sad, is I dont even like punk anymore, i just thought I'd throw in my 2 cents and give you guys a fucking clue, cause it's obvious you don't know what you're talking about. Crass actually even talks about The Clash and The Sex Pistols. but most of you probably never heard of Crass, because you were to busy soaking up Clash's popularity on the Television. Think before you speak.
WOW.

Ok Searos. My apologies, as I haven't read your post yet. You see, someone to whom I owe much respect has asked me to acknowledge your idiocy. The shape (yes, the physical shape) of your post alone reeks of mediocrity. I mean, it's almost a fucking square. I will henceforth endorse my friend's less-than-stellar opinion regarding yourself. Think of this as a kind of disclaimer, one in which DoctorSpooge calls you an idiot even before he delves into the depths of your miserable post. Tootles for now!

Not going to pick apart that whole cube of blathering bullshit, but one thing stood out to me in there...

You just proved that you have no fucking clue whatsoever.

You may have punk rock confused with indie rock~~
Granted its hard to be like "fuck the establishment" and be a rich bastard, but on the other hand, being young and homeless doesn't make you a punk.

Yer gonna have to qualify your statement of the Clash "just preaching" to everyone. I mean, I can say that Minor Threat just screams, and it'd prolly piss you off, but it wouldn't do anything else.

And as for DK songs not making sense, you gotta be shittin me.
You may very well be right about the Sex Pistols being contrived and formulated, but shit, dont drag the Dead Kennedys down with them. They don't belong there. If you can't see meaning in Kill the Poor, Soup Is Good Food, Holiday in Cambodia, Moral Majority, MTV Get Off the Air, Dear Abby, Straight A's, and Kinky Sex Makes the World Go Round, (thats off the top of my goddamn head) then you have no business posting.

Searos' entire argument is hereby discounted because he can't use paragraphs.

I've never understood why punk was as popular as it is. I'm not a fan of any punk (even old stuff) cause to me it just sounds like the music sucks. I mean really do any punk bands have the slightest clue how to play their instruments?

It seems to me that punk is more about the message. All these bands have a message they want the world to hear and that's all that matters. The actual music is secondary. The guitarist writes one riff and plays it the whole song, boooring.

To me, metal was always much better. The lyrics often suck, but you've got guitarists shredding and drummers playing at INSANE fucking speeds. Metal bands just seem to have a better idea of putting out quality music. Even metal sucks today tho with whiney bands like Korn being considered heavy.

Sorry for going a bit off topic, and if I was too judgmental towards punk don't get too pissed =p I never really got into it so I coulda missed some that is actually worth listening to.

to whomever pointed out the sex pistols were the worlds first punk abusing boy band, good show. but learn what the fucking enter key is.

my best friend's nephew was planning on commiting suicide (he wrote the note then pussied out, that's how we knew) but he later explained that he didn't commit suicide because of Good Charolette's song "hold on"

no, he didn't find some meaning in it, he didn't pity himself, he didn't do anything like that. he didn't wanna be a nothing statistic that whiney pussies abusing a fad can sing about and try to have a connection with.

rich kids singing about suicide = funny

but i reeeeeeeeeally hate the pop punk era and what not. it's a bastardization of culture. life has sucked this bad in every decade, it was just that many communist stars on little fuckers that didn't know what it was that finally made me realize it.

OPEN A BOOK YOU WHINEY PUSSIES.
and everyone who says "i hate punk" put down the bong, take off your studded belt, and remove your proverbial polo sweater and fucking commit suicide to show all those goth kids you're hardcore to the scene to the extent that you did what others only "flow" about.

oh, also i just rememberd montel tried to commit suicide and failed

i would like to add that montel is a no talent assbag who can't even die correctly. parkinsons > him (i know it's not parkinsons)

He deserves a medal, it should be a new negotiation tactic.

"Please don't jump, if you do some lame punk pop band of the month will write a song about suicide and you'll be a part of it. Do you really want that? DO YOU? It'll be the worst song on an album of garbage, it may even be the dreaded piano ballad that tries to show they have variety and sensitivity, the video will suck and be set in either a destroyed building or some windswept field and be full of overacting Creed posing. FOR THE LOVE OF GOD DON'T JUMP!"

I think you mean, "that's stupid my friends."

Punk 1 "What do we do with the money dudes?"
Punk 2 "Buy a house?"
Punk 1 "FUCK YOU DUDE, HOUSES AREN'T PUNK ROCK!"

Also Godspeed You Black Emperor are the best punk band ever, and they don't even play punk music as it's normally pigeonholed.

lol- Dead Kennedys were about something? right. Kill the poor? That didn't happen in america dumb ass, therefore the arguement meant nothing in their music, Minor Threat did scream, but guess what- It meant something. I don't really care if you fuckers think im wrong lol. You all have no idea what punk rock is, OH MAN DEAD KENNEDYS STOOD FOR SOMETHING SO STRONG, Oh yes, TOO DRUNK IM TOO DRUNK, TOO DRUNK TO FUCK. Wow, That's powerful and enforceful, and no im not confusing indie music with punk rock. They are homeless because they disagree with taxxes and the way americans are run. I don't really care about your opinions, and by the way Doctorsponge or whatever the fuck your name is lol- You have no idea what to even say, and you'll reply as in "because your stupidity is far to much for me to reply" but you can just can it, cause that means you have no idea to even reply because you know I'm right. Dead Kennedys is a god awful band. I don't care if you disagree, get your mouth off Jello's dead ass. and open your eyes. I never said it was bad music, its just about fucking nothing. Kill The Poor relates to america in no such way. We refuse to help the poor for their actions. and if you think people "cant help being poor" Then you're fucking stupid. Go to college, get an education. Do something with your life. as for Yeta or Yeti, whatever the fuck his name is, I'm not here to be proper and check my spelling. and make sure my paragraphs are in right form. This isn't english 101. so just shut the fuck up if you have nothing valid to bring up plzkthx. Ian Mackaye screamed a LOT, but his movement was more powerful than any of the points you are all trying to make. The Sex Pistols were shit, as well as Dead Kennedys. Listen to something tasteful for once, and open your eyes. Lyricists like JELLO and JOHNNY ROTTEN, are horrible. Jesse Michaels is a lyricist genius. He probably brought up more good points than any punk rock band put together ever have.

By the way Jimmee:
They didnt want a house cause you get taxxed on it dumb fuck. flex your head. Thanks.

JFC, are paragraphs really that challenging?
Not only can you not use the enter key, but you think that the Dead Kennedys sang about nothing?
They were the first goddamn punk band to actually have meaning in their songs, thanks in great part to the songwriting of Jelo Biafra.
Good examples of this include EVERY SONG THEY WROTE.
You are, however, very good at taking lyrics out of context.
