From the behind the scene trailer I saw on apple.com/trailer it appears that the plot line is that the predators created the Aztec/Mayan temples and used them for ritual purposes. When predators reach a certain age they are sent to the temples to fight aliens. If they defeat the alien, they are considered men. Check it out here;

But the script has been punted around, changed, rewritten enough that it will probably suck. That's usually what happens, anyways.

Which brings me back to the Predators in general. What was the storyline again.. First one, the predator accidently crashed on an island on earth and Schwarzenegger had to endure and bla bla.
Second, we find out that they're in fact bounty hunters? They do this as a sport..?
Obviously they're utterly intelligent and advanced and well-developed, But I'm wondering if they're like - super humans? I mean, if they breed like us (female+male=kids) etc.? Have we ever seen, let's call it, a "regular" predator, ie. a momma that goes around at home and makes supper while dad's on work? hehe Or are they all just some bastards who travels the galaxy to kill?

hmm all that makes me wanna see this movie so much. Hope they make some good storyline out of it, but it could easily go wrong too. Can't say they don't have the possibilities though. I liked the "trailer/preview" with the director telling us. I think it's a cool idea brining predators into focus with the pyramids and all. I think they've always used the earth as the battlefield, we just happened to be there all of a sudden and advance in technology etc.

We found out that the predator was killing for sport in the first one. Predator 2 merely let us know the scope of their hunting (the trophy case and the flintlock pistol).

There was no crash landing involved...you might be confusing the opening of "Predator" with "The Thing". The "Predator" came to earth quite deliberately to bag himself a few human skulls.

They're not bounty hunters, but the do hunt for sport. The Dark Horse comics delve into the "Predator" culture and psyche in a way that makes sense: basically the Pred society advanced itself with technology and intellectualism and lost its "primal" roots, which left them open to attack from other alien races and caused them to "wither" spiritually.

Thus, the Preds refocused a large priority of their society/culture on hunting to become the dominant race in the universe. The comics often have the Predators "seeding" worlds with the xenomorphy alien (from the Alien movies) as the aliens represent a challenging and changing (as the nature of the alien changes depending on what it gestates in) enemy to "hunt", although in many cases the alien becomes the "predator".

Yes, I am a comic nerd for knowing this.

I guess I did mix it up with The Thing In any way, that certainly cleared a lot up.

I've always found the theories and story behind the race and culture of the Predators utterly interesting.

A lot of it is explained in the books and comics. Books should be easy to find but GL finding the comics.

if it follows the comics it ought to be pretty good. in the comics the predators would send like a drone ship to a planet with a few alien eggs on it, the eggs would open and lay an egg and the predators would come back later when you had the adult aliens and hunt them. and the morphology of the aliens would differ depending on what it used as a host.
