By Genre? Bah, that's too many :P

1) Memento
2) 12 Monkeys
3) Akira
4) I am Sam
5) Donnie Darko

Note: memento is at the top of the list almost entirely because it fulfils my desire to see a Planescape: torment movie :P

Eh, I don't know if you'd call it "Independant", but it really was a break through movie for almost everyone involved. The only major people in it who had actually done anything of note previously were Stephen Baldwin and Gabriel Bryne.

It's easy to look back and say, "Yeah, there's a lot of big stars that everyone knows in that movie!", when at the time they were nobodies.

Well it was in the Independent section on Netflix is why I put it there =0 Just because something because Mainstream doesn't mean it's not Indy. Then Again, they could be wrong.

This thread is too hard. I'm drawing total blanks, so I'll just list the 5 best recent movies from any genre. (Recent being 1999-present, I suppose)

1) The Matrix
2) Donnie Darko (Saw it for the first time yesterday. Fucking.amazing.movie.)
3) Kill Bill
4) Adaptation
5) Death to Smoochy

Honorable mention: Bowling for Columbine.
