AFI 100 Heros and Villains

Anyone else watch this the other night? It listed the top 100 heros and villains from movies. Top three were:

Villains:
3. Darth Vader
2. Norman Bates
1. Hannibal Lector

Heros:
3. James Bond
2. Indiana Jones
1. Atticus Finch

Discuss!

I watched in in the commercials of the Miss Universe show (i'm lame), and it seemed like a cool show. Were there any Lord of the Rings characters in there at all? I also think i need to read the book with Atticus Finch in it again, because i was forced to read it in junior high and i hated it and everything associated with it, including Atticus... maybe i'll like it now that i'm a tiny bit more mature.

Atticus was an interesting choice for the #1 hero.

I knew Indiana Jones was going to be in the top 3 though. No time for love Dr. Jones!

ATTICUS FINCH?

Ok, let's not get too politically correct here.

Yea, good movie, great character, but when I think HERO, I think Arnold Schwarzenegger laying some heavy duty beatdown, or Harrison Ford, or Neo, or Luke Skywalker, or Maximus. Not some poindexter in glasses who is a bloodsucking lawyer, be it a noble hearted lawyer.~~~~~~~~

EH, I guess atticus is cool, I dunno, I just think seriously ass whooping when I think hero. And besides Hugyh Jackman as Wolverine should be number one~

...they have Travis Bickle as a villain? I thought he was the hero because he killed the pimps and saved the day, but he also had superhero powers because he survived like 10 bullets.

James Bond got screwed out of the #1 spot I think. Atticus didn't save the day 22 different times like Bond has.

#4 Villain was the Wicked Witch. Ph33r!

Quote:
*Hero: For voting purposes, a "hero" was defined as a character(s) who prevails in extreme circumstances and dramatizes a sense of morality, courage and purpose. Though they may be ambiguous or flawed, they often sacrifice themselves to show humanity at its best.

*Villain: For voting purposes, a "villain" was defined as a character(s) whose wickedness of mind, selfishness of character and will to power are sometimes masked by beauty and nobility, while others may rage unmasked. They can be horribly evil or grandiosely funny, but are ultimately tragic.
Personally I don't lend too much weight to AFI's lists.. Look at their winners, it's like a time machine. 1960s and 1970s hooooo!

I'd imagine a trustee meeting is like social night at the old folks home... Meh

How is Gary Oldman's character from the professional not on there? I would have him as a top 10 pick easy.

How about lex luthor....maybe he's lower on the list, but you'd think he'd make the top 50 at least.

Luke

No Luke Skywalker at all? At least they got Han and Darth. Darth should have been 1 or 2 though, but 3rd isn't bad. I knew Lecter would nab 1st place. They didn't do bad with Indy either, but like Iannis I've never even seen To Kill a Mockingbird.
