Best Movie Star?

In the UK recently was a program counting down the 100 greatest movie stars, number one was Al Pacino.

Just curious as to whome the MMH crowd thinks is the number one movie star of all time???

I would say Robert De'Niro.

Top 5 Acting Talents IMO:
Al Pacino
Robert DeNiro
Denzel Washington
Edward Norton (yea he's young, but look at 25th Hour, Primal Fear,American History X)
Mel Gibson

My favorite 5: If you feel these suck ass, keep it to yourself, your feedback won't change my opinion so, why bother?
Tom Cruise
Cuba Gooding (When he makes a drama)
DeNiro
Brad Pitt
Pacino

I think older actors were awful. I like and appreciate a lot of the work done back then, but to me most of the acting is horrible.

Hmm I disagree a bit here. THere were some outstanding examples of acting back in the day. But the thing that stands out to me from that time period is that generally speaking movie making was pretty shoddy and dreadful in quality. It wasn't anything for an actor under a non favorable contract to end up doing 10 or more movies in year. Hollywood was much more of an assembly line back then just shoving product out the door for the most part. Poorly thought out and executed shooting of a movie can make decent acting look bad.

But of the more modern actors here are a few I view as well above average

Al Pacino
Robert Reford
Gene Hackman
Paul Newman
Merle Streep

There are so many good actors, but a few that really have my vote are:

Steve McQueen
Brad Pritt
Mel Gibson
Paul Newman
Sean Connery

(And for good Measure, just two personal favorites, Denzel Washington, & Nicholas Cage)

hehe just actors I like

Guy Pearce
Mel Gibson
Arnold Schwarzenegger --ARNOLD - OWNS YOU - His last 2 movies sucked, but Predator, Total Recall, T1-2, ect ect owns, nuff said. Oh yea, he also made a movie called Conan the Barbarian, you might of heard of it~
Tom Cruise - his movies are getting better and better. Minority Report was outstanding, The Last Samurai is looking very good.
Russel Crowe - Gladiator - La Confidential (one of my favorite all time movies)
Steve Mqueen - Bullet -Great Escape, ect
Charlton Heston - try and catch a movie he made called "the omega man" really awesome movie. Also, Planet of the Apes anyone?
Sonny Chiba - The Street Fighter is a movie that crushes your nutz, nuff said.
Jean Claude Van Damme -ok he's hammy, a faggot who does the splits, but hell, his older movies are entertaining in a wierd way. Bloodsport, Double Impact, Kickboxer, I don't ever get tired of watching these tripe, shitty acted peices of shit, but christ, they do entertain. Oh yea, Timecop is a damn good science fiction film. Good fight scenes too.
Jim Cavaziel - Up and coming good actor. He made a good movie called Frequency, Count of Monte Cristo is also a good movie. I like his work. He's got some good projects upcoming. Passion is one, directed by Mel Gibson, he plays Jesus.
De'Niro He's my favorite movie of all time. It's a movie called Midnight Run If you've never seen this movie, go rent it. it's the best buddy comedy/action type of movie ever made. De'Niro is brutal in this film, and he plays his part very well. I love this movie.
Clint EastwoodAs far as western go, he makes the best. One of my all time favorite movies is "the Good, The Bad, and the Ugly" I love this movie. He also made some really good movies like Escape from Alkatraz, ect.

Yea, not all these guys are gonna earn best actor awards, but I make my judgements on if they make entertaining movies. Just my opinion~

Don't Forget: Vanilla Sky, Magnolia, Interview with the Vampire, Mission Impossible (1), Jerry Maguire. He's been making really excellent movies for a while now. Some people just choose not to like him, and it's their loss Can't wait for the last samurai

brian cox is one of the most underated actors working today

His performance as hannibal lector in mann's vastly superior version of red dragon was more interesting than hopkins. Go rent L.I.E, rushmore, and bravehart to see him at his best.

Peter O'Toole
Christopher Walken
Robert de Niro
James Stewart
Humphrey Bogart
Anthony Hopkins.

take your choice from any of those 6. Walken may not be the best actor in the world, but by gum he's the coolest.

for women i'd have to brush up on a few names. The only one to immediately jump in and smack me over the head is Hepburn, but thats just because women never get top billing...
