Anyone want to make a domestic box office prediction for Reloaded? It's interesting because it's rated R and only three R-rated movies have ever grossed over $200 million, and none since Saving Private Ryan in 1998. $200 mil is becoming fairly common for blockbusters these days, seven movies made it last year.

The R rating is indeed the big stumbling block the movie faces. Conventional wisdom holds that the R will keep Reloaded from climbing out of the $200s range. On the other hand, this is the most ancitipated movie in recent history.

I'd guess that The Matrix Reloaded will gross anywhere from $90 - 120 million in its opening weekend (my guess: $110). After that, its repeat business will push it into the high $200s. It'll surge into the $300s, but I doubt it'll break $400. That kind of business is almost unheard of these days, even for big-event openings.

As for setting records, I doubt it. Titanic was a fluke, and it'll be years before any movie comes close to that sort of box office.

its hard to get a true handle on just how many people see the movie though. I know that if i cant buy a ticket and i wanna see the movie, i buy a ticket to another movie and see matrix or just go into the matrix early get a seat in the middle and the cops never bother you. I mean sure, 120million dollars will have been made from people paying to see the movie, but its prolly closer to 180+ for what should have actually been made.

The first one alone grossed something like 485 million worldwide. I'd say that the next two combined could very easily gross over 1 billion.
