| The Matrix .... on IMAX So, they are releasing the Matrix sequals on Imax as well as regular format. Reloaded will be 2-3 weeks after general release, and Revolutions will be simultaneous with the Nov. 5th general release. Now, I want to get excited about this, but I am worried. A while back they were showing regular movies on the Imax, and they were just the normal sized with really cool sounds. I remember not too long ago they put Episode 2, and the Lion King on the Imax and they were reformatted. I am guessing the Matrix sequals will be formated for the screen like those re-releases were. What I am wondering is if anyone went to see those remastered for Imax versions of the movies, and how they looked. Were the the regular size, or Imax size? I am guessing they made use of the good Imax speakers? If they intend to fully utilize the Imax theaters, then I think it will be time to get excited.

The IMAX version will have two problems though, 1) The IMAX film reels are massive and heavy so they are limited in length to 2 hours, and 2) the screen aspect ratio for IMAX isn't wide screen, so the edges will be cut somewhat. So I do not recommend seeing the IMAX version first. As a comment to the people who didn't like Episode 2 all that much, in the IMAX version they had to cut 26 minutes out so it would fit on one reel, so they chopped off a bunch of love story stuff ![]() | |

Whats stopping them from using digital film reels like they do in regular movies?

| My mistake IMAX doesn't use 35mm it uses: (From the IMAX website) "IMAX uses 15-perforation, 70mm film to shoot and project images of incredible sharpness. The 15/70 frame is 10 times larger than the 35mm used in regular theatres and three times larger than standard 70mm film used in classic Hollywood epics. This makes it the largest commercial film ever invented." Now I am no technical expert, and kind of lazy so I am not going to dig through the website to find out, but my best guess as to why they don't use digital film reels is that no company has decided to bother making one that can film at the image quality that IMAX already does. Plus aside from Lucas, it doesn't seem like many in hollywood care for any kind of fully digital filming. The Two Towers has not been redone into the IMAX format, you may have just seen the standard reel played on an IMAX screen, in the IMAX theatre. |

| I saw TTT on an Imax screen, just the regular movie. I found that the theatre was too small and the screen was too big. Maybe it was just the theatre i went to, but it didn't have near the seating capacity of a normal theatre, plust the screen was of course way bigger. That makes for sore eyes and neck. I got there 45 minutes before it started and still got only average seats. (Silvercity West Edmonton Mall for you Edmontonians. It was the #2 theatre in North America in terms of grosses back then). |
