Battle Royale 2

while poking around at imdb I saw that they have a listing for a Battle Royale 2. Its got the same two kids who made it through the first one plus the same guy is directing. Was wondering if anyone had any more information about it. Also, did anyone catch that one of the chicks from the first Battle Royale is in Kill Bill? It should be cool to see one of those kids in an American movie.

Battle Royal really falls into the category of movies that reach cult status only because they offer something unexpected, different and over the top. But other than that, it's a poorly written, mildly amusing movie and Kinji Fukasaku delivers a very impersonal direction (not that it is directly related, but he was 70 when he directed Battle Royale).

Fukasaku has never been a very acclaimed director, but through years of practice he managed to offer us pretty decent yakuza movies (Hissatsu 4: Urami harashimasu was a very good surprise for example especially for its main character who is a ageing spy or detective - how this movie ended in the catalogue of a french VHS publisher will remain a mystery though, something that added for sure in the *pleasant surprise* effect).

In a pretty sad way, the best known thing about Fukasaku is that at the last minute he was not able to direct the movie Violent Cop, which ended to be the first film of its lead actor: Takeshi Kitano.

Welcome to the cult movie.

Star Wars is the biggest example.
