+1 Internets | A recent conversation I had with a bible thumper. Not sure why I'm bother to post this HERE. Maybe the Blarney Blackstone thing. What happens when a cat dies? It's brain stops working. I mean, before that. Add some detail. Ok. It's heart stops beating, it stops breathing, blood stops pumping into it's brain, after enough asphyxiation, the brain's synapses stop firing, all neural activity in the brain ceases, and the cat no longer moves. Ok. So what happens when a PERSON dies? The same thing. So that's what happen when everything on Earth dies? Yeah. So when exactly do the angels, halos, pearly gates, and old men in beards with all encompassing power come into play? After you cease to move. Why is it so hard for you to believe that what you see is what you get? Is it because you KNOW there's something more, or because you desperately NEED there to be something more? ...

| It's part and parcel of mankind's struggle to comprehend the meaning of its own existence. There are two possibilities, really. a) The universe was created by noone and nothing, or b) it was created by something. Folks that believe option a ultimately believe that there is no point to mankind's existence. That isn't to say that they aren't good people, but they believe this life is all we get. Folks that believe option b end up having to ask (and answer) for themselves then what created the universe, and why. Obviously most cultures around the world are mostly type b, or have a very influential segment that are. The search for meaning is the origin to most if not all scientific branches. |

| Some people know, some believe, some people dont. Those are the three types of people you're going to deal with. Trying to get the left and the right to agree with anything is pointless. The people in the middle can be swayed and is a constant struggle from the knows and the donts. |

| I've always pondered what happens after death, the most I can think is that you just go into perma comma in some sort of way (I belive your brain stops all together) *ie* some sort of way. I try not to be an ass hole incase something of a higher good exists.

| the train doesn't matter if your Catholic, Jewish, Islam, or even athiest (sp?). when your lying on your death bed and you see that train coming toward you , you all are going to think the same thing. "Oh God...". dont care if you arent afraid of death or if you don't belive in anything after it, when their life is nearly up, everyone questions their beliefs at least once. |

| a theory Here's a theory to ponder: Basically, once the brain realizes the end is near, it tries to prevent that...by slowing down time perception (it is also my belief the time perception plays a major part in intelligence, and that everyone's perception of time is unique). Essentially, the brain can't stop time, but it can slow it infinitely for itself. Sort of like the question 'how long does it take you to walk 5 feet if you step half the remaining distance in each step.' So basically, you realize death is near, and the brain begins to slow down time -- and at the same time 'plays back' memorable moments in your life. This brings some explanation to the saying 'I saw my life flash before my eyes.' Also, if any have read Slaughterhouse Five, it sort of contributes to the theory (its been a while since I read it but I do believe it is directly connected to the theory..). Just my opinion ![]()

| I've heard and seen a lot of the stuff on Discovery etc about how the brain and body does crazy stuff when it can sense it is dying. Scientists say basically the brain will try everything it can do to make you calm/okay if it is shutting down, down to past pleasant memories, to white warm lights, familiar people talking to you saying it is okay, etc .. Which can explain a lot for people who have been clinically dead and brought back to life with crazy stories. However, for the final truth, I dont think any of us can deny anything until it actually happens, and by then, it wont be much of an issue, will it? |

| http://www.afterlife-knowledge.com These people amongst others claim to be able to communicate with the deceased. And it's something that you can learn to do yourself..anyone can learn to do it if they want. To put a little validity into this thread for being in this forum, they say that the Afterlife has so far been best depicted in the movie, What Dreams May Come. |

| Think about it Aychamo, if I perceived things happening more in slo-mo than you did, I would have more "personal" time to think things over, thus appearing more intelligent. I agree with that other poster, but I always think of it in relation to athletics. Think how much better you would be than Joe Schmoe if you were perceiving things in slo-mo, basically, and you could take your sweet time to adjust mentally for that game winning shot. |
