| There was a movie (some time ago) about Fuedal Japan... was an amazing epic type movie. I remember the battles being freaking awesome. I want to say it was called "Heaven and Earth" or some such. (No, not the Oliver Stone movie.) Anyone have any idea what the name of this was?

| Everything I own that is "foriegn" is owned by an American base company.. Otherwise i'd say The Two Towers (NZ) or Mad Max(AUS).. Or La Femme Nikita(FRA) (Original), or The Professional(FRA).. but alas, it's all american published.. so.. dunno.Blah even Das Boot(GER) cant even be considered.. grr Last edited by Xaen : 12-26-2002 at 04:53 PM. |

| Some favorites... The City of Lost Children- A surreal story about a mad scientist who feeds off of the dreams of children that he kidnaps. It takes place in some weird alternate reality freakshow version of Earth. I don't think this movie got near enough credit when it came out. Visually it's beautiful and it's highly entertaining, with some of the best child acting i've seen, especially by the main character, Miet (sp?). Delicatessen- Same guys that did The City of Lost Children. It's another surreal dark comedy, this time about cannibalism. If you like City of Lost Children, you'll like this too. Seven Samurai- One of the greatest movies ever made, period. It's major influence on filmmaking can not be overstated. Everyone should see this movie. Ran- Akira Kurosawa's epic masterpiece. It's basically King Lear with massive samurai battles. You can't go wrong. Life Is Beautiful- I really didn't expect to like this movie. I expected it to be emotionally manipulative, or just crass and silly. I was wrong. I thought it was very funny and touching. |

| Depends on whether you consider the LotR a foreign film or not. They are completely made in New Zealand but they are American financed. The Fellowship of the Rings would be my vote unless you call the American financed technicallity then I'd say Seven Samurai.
