| The Two Towers I was fortunate enough to be invited to a press screening of this movie yesterday and it was just as impressive as the 1st one. Very very minor adjustments at some points in the story line, but, necessary due to the medium they are using to tell the story. Visually as spectacular as the 1st, but, they don't go quite as far with the obligatory panaromic views as they did in the first film. The actress playing Eowyn gets 2 thumbs up (complete babe), and the job they did with Gollum was probably the highlight of the film for me. George Lucas really needs to go to the Peter Jackson school of CGI/Actor film integration. Kinidyen ps So yeah buy your tickets now. Last edited by Kinidyen : 12-03-2002 at 04:53 PM. |

| *** ASKING FOR TINY SPOILERS *** i don't want to know anything too important. 1) how well were the ents done? 2) about how long was the helm's deep fight, and how awesome was it? ![]() 3) do you think it is more enjoyable for non-tolkein fans to watch? (ie: more action packed, less whining about long, boring parts) |

| For anyone that's interested, there's some great reviews from people that managed to get into some MTV screening of the film, at www.aint-it-cool-news.com There are spoilers in the reviews, so read at your own risk. |

. The reviews spoil how the movie is laid out, the order of some of the scenes (i.e.: it spoils what the movie opens with, and tells that the climax of the movie is not the same as the climax of the book, in fact the climax of the movie is sort of surprising.)And, also there's the rare people that haven't read the books and don't know what will happen in the movie, the reviews spoil a lot of the story. Basically, for anyone that doesnt want to read the reviews, one person said it was 10 times better than Fellowship, and the rest basically said that its not better or worse than Fellowship, it just feels like an extension of the same movie, as it should.

I've never seen a movie that was better than the book, so the books must OWN! So after I saw the movie I picked up the Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings. The Hobbit was a little too fast paced. It barely skimmed over everything. Bearable, but not great. The Lord of the Rings suffered from the exact opposite. The entire fucking series dragged on and on and on and on. I gave up about a hundred pages into The Two Towers. I have now seen a movie that was better than the books.

| Have to disagree with you Snoot. The thing that grabbed me about Tolkein from the moment I picked up "The Fellowship of the Ring" was the depth of the world he'd created. There was no aspect of it he hadn't given thought to, it was if I was reading a first person view of history in the making, and it was quite obvious that it was happening in a world that had a history. Much had gone before to lead to this series of events, and that dragging on and on was the bits that filled you in on that. The first time I read the series though even I could have done without the poetry though, granted, I was like eleven or twelve at the time though. I went on to read all the rest of his works, and the notes and such put together afdter his death, and I have to say that, for me, the histories and explanations add to my fondness for the whole of Middle Earth. Now I understand that if you're looking for an entertaining light sort of read, a good story and not much else, then no, this isn't a great series to read, but if you read it with the approcah of gaining a glimpse into another world... For something created as a background for a made up language, even on it's own, Tolkein's world is remarkable. The man had such a tremendous imagination and there was enough detail imagined, that literally millions of people over the last five and change decades have been able to transport it whole to their imaginations. To me, it's this that's part of what makes the books so worth reading. The world is so complete that it makes the suspension of disbelief that much easier. It makes / made me curious about all the significant individuals and events that led to the story, and what came after. That's just my opinion though. -G |

| When I heard the Fellowship(and the entire series, in long honkin' movies) was being released last year I decided to read the book over again before watching the movie. Last time I read them I was about 10. I thought they were mind-numbingly boring compared to like..Conan...heh. Dusting them off after a decade I found that they were hella good. The extended version stuck to the spirit of the book even better than the other version(cept for Tom. Tom rocked. And the spirit of the mountain wasn't responsible for the avalanche in either version =\) Just about a week ago I finished reading over the Two Towers again. I keep hearing that the movie ends before they pass through Shelob's lair, and I ask why? That was one hell of a cliffhanger Tolkein left. I'll go through the Return of the King next november =) Last edited by Iannis : 12-05-2002 at 05:34 PM. |
