Yeah, people suck.

Seen TTT 3 times, First time was 11:59am showing, everyonr in there was quiet and respectful, everyone there *wanted* to see it.
Second time was a 5:30 pm showing. All was good until these two people sat right behind me and my friend, and discussed every plot point. Oh look that's Treebeard, Ooh... Its Gandalf... the whole thing. I woulda said something but they stopped about halfway through.

Went Tues night, to a 7:30pm show, and this ass in the front of the theater left his phone on. it rang 5 fucking times and he answered it 5 fucking times. After the 3rd time, someone told him to shut it off, he turned around, laughed and said "Merry Christmas" Then I said "No, really, turn it off". He turned and said "Fuck you" So the other dude gets up and goes to get the manager. The manager comes in and while he's talking to him, the people behind us have their cell go off.

Even better than turning the phone off, leave it in the fucking car. You're not that important. And if you need to be reached because you are that important(IE doctor on emergency call... Yeah, that's about it.) Don't go to the fucking movies. Ignorant bastards.

Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
Waited about 3 weeks after release and went to a theater in the small city (20Kish people) I live in on a Wednesday for the 9PM showing.

I was literally the only person in the entire theater-damn that rocked.

You are in a darkened room with a big screen and speakers around you. The idea is to watch the moving pictures and listen to the sound, not hang out with the other people in the theatre.
Rocky Horror Picture Show?

..............GREAT SCOTT!!!

I hate kids and noise more then anything. But can't say the clapping and cheering at appropriate times bothers me. I'm not one to do that. But it isn't really a pet peeve of mine when other's do. Of course there are only 3 movies that I have been to that this has occured.

LoTR: FoTR-midnight showing
Star Wars: Attack of Clones-midnight showing
LoTR: TTT-10:30 Wednesday night

I watch tons of movies at the theatre and only those 3 have I ever heard anyone clap or cheer. But it has never been some little shit teen that was doing it. Normally it is the 30+ crowd that have been waiting to see these movies for a long time and now they are really enjoying the movie and it is just a natural reaction coming out.

If some one has a home theatre that is set up better then Movie Theatre's out there today then they have to be loaded. I watch movie's at about 4 different places. All of them are damn nice with stadium, reclining seats, great sound systems and they keep them damn clean. Sure I can go to some shitty $1 movie that sounds awfull and is nasty as hell. But if you live in a decent size town these days you should be able to find a nice theatre to watch movies in.

Noise other then clapping and such drive me fucking mad. Actually had to go watch Spiderman with a couple that is friends with my wife and I. They brought their two kids that are 4-8. WHile the 8 year old was pretty good since he loves spider man. The damn 4 year old drove me nuts. She kept jumping down in the floor then climbing in my lap, then in her dads then in her moms then her own seat. Then crying because the "Green guy is scary daddy." I almost lost it. Told my wife we'd never go watch another move with them unless it something from Stephen King.

We did have some jerk in TTT who's phone rang a few times. It even rang when they had the little thing on the screen about being polite and turning your phone off. Then went off right before the big battle. About 10 people shouted at him to get the fuck out.

Going to watch TTT again this weekend, see if people are still cheering or if it only the first showing die hards that cheer and hollar.

First off, I don't mind a bit of clapping or cheering during a big movie, you go to the movies for the fun experience. If it goes on for 10 minutes than yah thats too long, but i doubt it has ever happened. MAYBE and a HUGE MAYBE is at the end credits it may have happened at some movie, but doubtfull.

Anyhoo, I wanted to comment about the Home Theater thingy. It is true that its possible to get a very good sound system, one that is even better than a theater as we have in my house. We have Dolby Digital EX and DTS ES which is higher quality than all theaters in my area except like 2 screens I think. BUT unless you have a reel to reel in your home with a theater projector you won't be getting the screen quality. DVD currently is about 550 lines of resolution, there is no HDTV format except DVHS which is very new and very expensive and has very few movies on it. And even HDTV format still isn't as good as a photo image produced in a frame of film.

Anyhoo, I don't expect a home format to take over for theaters, at least not in the near future (read 40 years).
