lol.. you must have a sad life, if people expressing emotion bothers you.

i prefer it to be quiet, but i dont get bothered by the people in the theater reacting. i love when gandalf appears, and you hear everyone go "OH ITS GANDALF!". I already know who it is, but they haven't read the books, and it's a surprise to them.

Just beacuse they dont read the books, or can't spell tolkein, doesnt make them stupid, or undeserving to see the movie. hell, half of me wishes i hadn't read the books until after the movies all came out. and half of me wishes i had read them all before the movies came out.

but to them, they enjoy the movie. it is great to see them so happy that they cheer out.

god forbid someone to show emotion. maybe you should go back to your cave and put your earmfufs on.

If you want a morose crowd, then wait a few weeks. Don't go so quickly and expect everyone to be on their best behavior. I went Tuesday evening (midnight movie) expecting a bunch of rowdy obsessed fans (who clapped, cheered, ect.) It was great fun.

However, it's not for everyone. You have to realize that you were surrounded by a bunch of half-crazed fans who have waited (breathless w/anticipation) for a year to see this movie. Did you also see The Mummy Returns expecting everyone to be courteous and considerate?

I am the first one to complain about disruptive folks, trust me on that. However, I know better than to go to a movie such as this on opening night (or during opening week-end) under the impression that everyone will be as calm, mellow and quiet as I am.

That said, I would pay up the wazoo to be able to visit a movie theater that has opera-house rules: no babes in arms (i.e. no kidds under a certain age allowed, AT ALL,) no talking, no FOOD, no getting up during the performance (unless it's during an intermission, ect.) I can dream, right?

Wait, are you the one person who went to see the Mummy Returns?? They appreciated your $7 Haha, joking..

Aye.. I agree with your 2nd paragrpah I quoted above, even though it contradicts what I wrote above..

Some of the quiet dramas, say like Solaris, you can hear every noise. You can hear people reach into their bag of popcorn, and masticate every single piece.

I hate babies crying though.. I think it's just rude to bring your stupid kid in the movie theater.. Or TO ANSWER YOUR CELL PHONE! I was at one movie and you hear RING RING, "HELLO?" The guy was talking loud so that he could hear.. Someone yelled "GET OFF THE FUCKING PHONE IDIOT". It was great. The guy got up and walked out.

There is a difference of being rude, and being emotional... But it would be great to rent out the theater, total silence, and sit in the dead center..> wow!

aychamo, you shut it! MUMMY Returns was ... um... it was Entertaining!

I could not agree more about some movies being so quiet that you can hear the people behind you if they are breathing too loud (i.e. American Beauty was one of these.)

Kids: I remember during the Matrix having a couple sit behind me with a 3 year old that they bounced on their lap through the whole movie. The kid giggled, oooo'ed and ahhhh'ed through the entire movie (in between squealing and squirming out of his parents' hands only to run up and down the aisle.) During the corridor scene, the kid started crying and covering his ears with his hands.

The thing is, these people didn't think they were doing anything wrong until the entire row in front of them turned around and said "SHHHHHHHHHHHHH" during one of the child's outbursts. Everyone cheered and the parents glowered dubiously through the rest of the film. It goes to show that some people need written approval from the government to have children let alone raise them.

Cell Phones: Turn them the !#@$ off. How hard it is?

Talking during movies: I don't care who you are, I don't need to hear about the engineering scheme and science behind the space shuttle while I am watching the rocket take off in Apollo 13 and furthermore, I don't need to hear it for 10 minutes straight. FU and your lack of manners, freaks.

Cheering and clapping, hey . . . during my many views of Fellowship of the Ring in the theaters, around half of the crowds cheered wildly when Aragorn lobbed ole fugly's head off at the end. How can you not be saying "F* YEAH!" during that scene!

uh haha...this hits a nerve with me=/

Clapping during movies? Eh..who really gives a fuck. It doesn't bother me if people are reacting to the movie. It doesn't make me lose focus of the story. But.....these things DO

1. talking/asking your butt buddy questions about the plot. I fucking hate this shit. You have some yahoo behind you talking in fucking spanish or dutch or some shit asking about the movie or talking in general. talking in general pisses me off. I walked out of TTT the first time I went to see it 15 minutes in. This huge group of faggots sat behind me. One kid was talking on his cell phone right in my ear to his buddies as Gandalf was slashing that demon with his sword. So i got up, turned around and told him to hang up his phone and STFU. There were about 15 of them talking and laughing so i said the hell with it and left and got my money back.

2. Cell phones going off during the tense moments in the film. Turn OFF YOUR DAMN PHONE.

3. Kids. DO NOT BRING 2 and 3 YEAR OLDS TO MOVIES UNLESS THEY ARE RATED G DAMMIT. I'm trying to watch this movie and this little fucking brat is crying really loud and running up and down the aisles. Put a leash on these fucking brats.

4. Laughing at FANDANGO COMMERCiALS. If you laugh at these dam fucking commercials you should be pistol whipped. THEY ARE NUB FUNNY KKFUCKOFF.

oh and don't forget this

I dunno, I never go to a movie to "socialize" or to "interact" with people. If I did, I would go to whatever that gay show from the 70's that people go to in costume (I don't have a problem with that, just for sure not my thing). You are in a darkened room with a big screen and speakers around you. The idea is to watch the moving pictures and listen to the sound, not hang out with the other people in the theatre.

Laughing or screaming or whatever, honest reactions, are fine. But clapping/talking/yelling things is a voluntary thing that you choose to do, and I would think it's common courtesy that you shut the fuck up while in a theatre, as everyone has paid good money to see a movie, not listen to you give your buddy an outline of the next 5 minutes of the movie, or egg on a character in a scene that was filmed years ago.

Although, to be honest, the past few times I have been to the theatre (saw TTT twice in the past few days, say Sum Of All Fears over the summer, and that's been it since FOTR) it's been fine, people have been pretty good.

Also, in regards to watching movies at home or theatre, I totally prefer it at home. I can pause the movie to go take a leak, grab a drink, or rewind it in case I missed some dialogue, I can watch part of it if I want, I am on a nice comfy recliner, I can adjust the volume to how much I want etc etc. The only difference between theatre and home now is the sheer size. However, home theatre technology has come so far in the past few years that the difference isn't that bad anymore. DVD's are so much better than VHS (I refuse to watch anything on VHS now, it's so awful), dolby 5.1 or even 6.1 systems are relatively affordable, and large TV's are so much better than they were even 5 years ago. I have a 54" standard ratio TV, and sitting about 10 feet back it's great, every bit as good as the theatre. I wish it was a widescreen and a bit bigger (the guy who did our A/V system convinced us that widescreen was a bad idea, unfortunately), but it does the job. The only reason I go to the theatre now is if I really want to see a movie right away. Otherwise the $13.50 CDN it costs to see a movie is just ridiculous, DVD's are rarely over $25 here.

So yeah, Home > Theatre.

I always prefer to watch a movie at home with people I like, and can pause it in case discussion or interruption comes up. The size of the screen doesn't matter, to me. Quality of video, and quality of environment does. I still goto the theatre when there's something I really want to see, or can't see on my *extremely simple* home theatre (aka, away from home, or with friends).

But really, if you can't afford a couple grand on a nice tv and home theatre set-up, go see TTT 5 times at crazy prices and other movies once or twice. Perhaps movies and tv don't matter to you..cool, everyone has a right to their opinion. For me, though, I can watch DVD's, VHS, Digital Cable, on my two-year old $1,800 "home theatre." And I love it. If I had the money to get better equipment, I honestly would. A nice 16:9 50-60" plasma, progressive DVD player, 7.1 Surround Sound, Cable HDTV Tuner; you'd cream your pants at the quality. Your wallet would cry, but you'd be angry for the very existence of movie theatres.

I really dig when people clap and such, you can almost feel the excitement or anticipation in the crowd at such times. The group experience is half the reason for going to the theatre for me, the other half being to see the movie early. Otherwise you should just stay home and save yourself money, watch it later or download it off of Kazaa. I liked watching The Ring with a bunch of people and seeing women screaming at suspenseful parts, it heightens the mood of the moment. Which is not to say I'm a social person, I'm not. While I was watching Two Towers there was this snot nosed kid sitting next to me who kept raising and lowering his armchair real hard so it would create reverbrations throughout the row. I wanted to grab him by his fat head and throw him over the aisle.

Clapping and getting into the movie's excitement is one thing...

Anything else is total noise and shouldn't be there. Babies, small kids being allowed to talk by their parents who just dont give a fuck, CELL PHONES, and other crap is NOT acceptable.

If your fucking phone rings, you should do the polite thing and haul ass out of the theatre..not sit there like a primadonna and talk on it.

I went to the first LOTR with a friend (I had never read the books) and of course right in front of us was a group of about 6 youngkids who kept saying exactly what was going to happen right before it did. And where were the parents? Sitting there not giving a crap. "Hey honey, I'm glad we raised a pack of rude, and out of control kids...pass the popcorn"

I second the motion for theatres with opera house rules.

Taehoon I don't know what kind of shit hole theatre you go to, but I like to go to a decent theatre with arena seating and good quality sound and visuals.

Also if you don't wanna have to see the movie with a bunch of kids go later, 3:40 shows arn't usually attended by the thinking masses.

Oh and by the way, no movie has ever made *billions* of dollars. I'm sure you can find the exact figures on the net. The first LoTR film made around 500 million, and that was high.

I don't mind clapping much. I clapped when I saw the Title for "Lord of the Rings" that was it though, after that I wanted to absorb the movie.

Oh LOL, I almost forgot...

When I went to see the ring we got there late so there was SHIT seating left. I ended up having to sit in the very front with my head jacked straight up. This couple next to me brought their toddler. They had a crib and toys set up right there in the aisle. The kid sat there screaming the entire picture.

Y'know, An older friend of mine told me once that a 12yr old from 2 decades ago was easily as mature as a 16yr old of today. I don't mind admitting I'm 16 just because I'm not an immature moron. I see guys wearing their pants at their knees unable to run without holding their pants up in 80$ shoes and shit, pisses me off.

At least have the decency to shut the hell up during a movie. I don't give a fuck if you paid money and it's your right to clap. Sure, that may be the case, but it's outside of common decency to clap and make noise just because you have the right. Manners, what are those?
