Gangs of new york

I'm gonna catch this today. From what I've read it's bombing pretty bad in the theatres.

1. The two Towers = 100 million

2. Gangs = 9 million

This was an expensive movie. Has anyone seen this to merit such a paulty take?

I've seen it...

I personally thought it was kind of boring.

The end was obvious from the first 5 minutes.... I mean it's not to say the story didn't have a lot of unexpected twists, it did. But you knew what the final outcome would be.

The fighting seens were pretty gruesome, almost too gruesome in fact, I found myself compelled to turn away once or twice.

The acting was fairly good but I guess overall it seemed like a fairly straightforward, average movie.

The two terrors was far better. (which I am going to see again tonight )

What sucks is that Gangs of New York is being hailed as movie of the year nearly hands down from everyone, and The Two Towers is somewhere in 4th or 5th place below a bunch of movies ive never even heard of (Other than Gangs..) ..

Wtf?

I think..

his point was more of the fact that the two towers was so good, it's hard to believe theres 4 or 5 movies coming out this year that will top it.

A friend of mine said it was fantastic and a must see. I had evey intension of going to see it anyway. Gonna try and catch an early afternoon show tomorrow maybe if I get done with Christmas shopping early enough.

The Kill Bill trailer in front of it was supposed to look great, too.

Why would TTT automatically be considered for best movie of the year? Haven't seen Gangs, so no comment there.

Not everyone likes fantasy movies...or Tolkien. I am one of them. Nothing against the LOTR trilogy itself..but it never did anything for me.

Scifi and Fantasy rarely win best picture awards...the only ones I can even think of are Star Wars and E.T.

DiCaprio does his best but he was pretty badly miscast. He did his best to hang with Daniel Day-Lewis, who should get an Oscar Nomination for Best Actor to go along with his Golden Globe Nomination.

I agree with the poster who was talking about the violence. I was nearly overwhelmed by the first large fight (with Priest Vallon). I really never wanted to know why they outlaw fishhooking in UFC. *shivers*

It could have been better and without that cannonball, things would have ended differently. It was worth seeing, but I probably won't be buying it on DvD.

Neither of those films won Best Picture. Star Wars lost to Annie Hall and E.T. lost to Gandhi.

The movie was too long and too boring.

Too many parts were predictable and half the movie was a history lesson. I would avoid this movie if I were you, its almost as long as lotr and only has a small fraction of actual fighting. The story was just too boring and predictable, please save yourself by not seeing this movie. Even most of the previews sucked!

Well I enjoyed the movie, I don't think it was the best this year but it was good. Daniel Day Lewis and the Kill Bill Trailer were worth the price of admission alone. I also think Leo DiCaprio gets far too much crap tossed on him. He's not that bad an actor it just seems that whenever someone does a hugely sucessful movie everyone has to shit on them. So you didn't like Titanic and think it didn't deserve to make 2 billion dollars and you think hes too "pretty". Go watch This Boy's Life or What's Eating Gilbert Grape if you think hes a bad actor. Anyhoo I think he did his job in the movie, but Bill the Butcher was just too powerful a character that he overshadowed Leo's character. But then Bill the Butcher (Daniel Day Lewis' character) pretty much put everyone else in the movie to shame. That was the point though and it worked well.

It did move a bit slow, and the opening scene was very gruesome, but this is a Scorsese film. This is the guy that put someones head in a vice and crushed it folks. I think people need to realize that this isn't just a revenge movie, its a bit more than that. And it was a history lesson in part as well, I didn't know about the draft riots that took place during that time.

Anyhoo, I enjoyed it but it isn't for everyone.

Because it is part history it's not going to have plot twists which never really happen in real life. It's straight forward much like history is. Was a good movie and i would recomend seeing it. Unfortunately i had the unpleasure of a chinese family bringing their fucking kid into the movie that was pissing me off for the first hour until i told them to STFU. Some people need to be shot.

Dear god..SPOILER <--

The movie was farily decent until the goddamn end, they build up the whole movie for a climactic fight sequence between the Butcher and his apprentice, and they fuck it all up with some bullshit like Cannon balls from the harbor... That pissed me off to no end, the Butcher was easily one of the coolest villains i've seen in a while, it was a great story, nice visuals but jesus that ending sucked.
