| lord almighty, what a piece of shit. Hands down the worst film Scorsese has directed in about 20 years. $97 million and really they come up with...nothing at all, except an alright performance by Daniel Day Lewis.

| The cannons stopping the fight was kinda the whole point. The entire movie they're divided, Irish, Natives, blacks, whites. As it turns out, they're really just all Americans. Maybe it's because I have an edumacationing and can appreciate the history, but I loved Gangs.... It was a gangster movie set in the 1860's, with all the personal and political undercurrents that I would expect from previous Scorsese films. |

| Aside from the fact that he was in Titanic and he is prettier than me, DiCaprio is alright, good in every other movie I've seen him in and excellent in some (Gilbert Grape, Basketball Diaries) Anyway, haven't seen gangs yet, maybe I'll wait to rent it =/ I don't go to theaters much but if I were say, go to one this weekend, which should I see: Gangs or TTT?

| Definitely Two Towers if you have those two to pick from. Gangs is loosely based on history but takes it's fair share of liberties. Personally, I thought it was crap. The story was extremely weak and predictable, there were no cannons firing at the town during the draft riots, and the point it was trying to make I completely disagree with. Daniel Day Lewis is the only redeeming factor in the movie, but having to put up with this p.o.s for such a long time is in no way worth what I paid. Martin Scorsese owes me 3 hours of my life back. |

| I thought it was pretty good but they definately could have shaved about 20 minutes out of it for better flow and I agree with the grumbling about the end. The movie needed a great fight between Leo and Lewis to bring closure to it.

| People need to stop using words they don't know the meaning of. Gangs of New York was not predictable. Predictable would have been a five minute kung fu fight at the end between Leo and Daniel Day Lewis like all of you seem to have wanted. The cannons might have been a lame ending, but they were not predictable, and neither was the rest of the movie. Of course Vallon's son and Bill will face off at the end, that doesn't make the movie predictable. That's like saying LOTR is predictable because they'll just throw the ring into the mountain at the end. It's what's in between that matters, and if you try to say you could predict everything that happened in the three hours between the opening and closing, I'll call you for the lying jackasses you are. The movie was an interesting look at a period of forgotten American lore, and for all its realism and history, I'm sure it was only a semi-accurate portrayal of the times. I doubt the 1860's urban life was really this colorful or vibrant - like a souped-up romanticized version of the Victorian era, and I dug the crazy vibes. That was the point, the heroes and villains and fighting were all bigger than life. Daniel Day Lewis and Leonardo make this revenge plot work, and if Scorsese could teach a few things while telling his story, that's not something to get bitter about, it's like you're actually afraid you might be learning something, Oh no! The more I think about this movie, the more I like it. If it only had the benefit of 20 or 30 minutes of choice editing of scenes that were unnecessary to the plot, it would have been one of my favorite movies of all time. |
