Bad Taste

Well I went and rented Peter Jacksons Dead Alive recently and quite enjoyed it. It is the most gory movies I have ever seen, but at the same time, very funny. I then went and checked out what other early movies Peter Jackson had done after enjoying The Frightners and Heavenly Creatures. I kept reading good reviews of Bad Taste, his first movie that was just a project he was shooting on weekends with friends. And also Meet the Feebles, but these are not movies you can find in most rental places. I figured I would trust the reviews like rottentomatoes and digitalbits and just buy the movies. I have yet to watch Meet the Feebles, however my brother did and said it was a little funny, but mostly bad.

Bad Taste was basically like watching a movie that a bunch of teenagers would make to pass the time. Now I do understand that it was made on an $11,000 budget shot on weekends over 4 years with no actors just friends of Peter Jacksons. For that I can say it was decent for what they had to use. The pacing was rather slow though, probably due to the fact that it was just supposed to be a short film that was extended to a full feature. For those that don't know Bad Taste is about a bunch of aliens that harvest humans to eat using a fast food resturant (the fast food place is just touched on rather quickly). Anyhoo, a group of government agents are like sent to kill them or something. Anyhoo, I don't think I can recommend buying this movie MAYBE if you can find a place that rents it pick it up. The only worthy thing about the DVD is that I at least bought the limited edition 2 disc version so I got a 25 minute documentary about the movie. It showed some of the early stuff Peter Jackson did (as in school projects and short films when he was a kid). It also had an interview with Peter Jackson in his home talking about the special effects and talking with his parents. It was interesting to see how they did certain shots and it would be good for those who want to shoot their own cheap movies.

Anyone else seen Bad Taste, and their thoughts?

hehe I saw it like 10 years ago. It had some kind of "cult classic of the video store" fuzz around it at the time :P

I don't remember it too well other that it was nonsensical, cheap and gross. The title is not lying! But it's so odd I can't help having a lot of sympathy for this movie

I remember that odd car with fake beetles on the front... the guy picking brain parts to complete his... and the cow (or was it a sheep?) blown with a bazooka :P And of course the puking sequence... for some reason, that only an therapist can find I guess, puking jokes always made me laugh a lot. I am looking forward the DVD of Austin Powers 2 since they removed a whole musical scene with people dancing and puking around... charming :P

Bad Taste is the only Peter Jackson horror (or whatever genre they fit in) film I enjoyed watching. The movies after that were too serious and had too much budget for my taste.

What makes Bad Taste great is the improvised plot, horrible acting and lack of logic. Those flaws is what makes the movie stand out from all other splatter films. You can even see how the first 10-15 minutes of the film was made with even lower budget then the rest. All the shaky handcam shots and confused clips increase the feeling of complete madness and comedy.

Maybe I´m biased because I saw it for the first time as a teenager and was blown away. I had never seen anything like it before. But still, Bad Taste is a cult classic and I still laugh at everything Derek does, before and after he dies.

bad taste is an awsome movie. I have seen it when I was a teenager and I loved it from the first second. The cuts, the camera shots are SOOO Peter Jackson.

I like his other work too but Bad Taste holds a special place in my heart

Yep, back in middle school (longgggggg ass time ago) when we stayed over on weekends and rented all the cool horror flicks, this was the one to have. It was an instant cult classic, and could be found in nearly every video store. I just saw it this past halloween on SciFi or some other channel and it was just as good as it was back then. Horribly bad filming, but it was flipping hilarious.

Anyone who was half into watching freaky movies like Texas Chainsaw Massacre, Nightmare on Elmstreet, and Friday the 13th as a kid has probably seen this already. Or ya missed out on a great movie
