And yet none of my friends have even heard of it.

I guess it's time to pick this one up and watch it, since you all think that it's super awesome.

I watched it last night (streaming on netflix). Pretty cool. I enjoyed a new twist on vampires. The movie is slow, but I didn't feel like it dragged. There were some obvious low budget special effects, but it worked.

It scores 82 on metacritic, so it's not just us.

It's not really a traditional horror movie though, there's a lot more to it.

Generally speaking, if FOH thinks something is complete shit it turns out to be complete shit. If FOH is divided, or the majority think that it is possibly something spectacular... well, then I go and see it. No sarcasm in my above post, either. I enjoy watching movies, and I've seen a lot of movies that I never would have heard of based off of random suggestions that I find in this forum.

And I'll be watching it tonight, if I get time.

I have a feeling there is a direct correlation with [Rec] and Quarantine's success and the idea to do this remake. It's once again proving that Hollywood can no longer come up with unique ideas. Take a foreign film that has had lots of positive feedback in the American underground (e.g. torrents), remake it in English, and then profit.

^This. The distributor STILL has not fixed the subtitle problem for the blu-ray version in the US. If you search carefully you can find it on DVD (it will clearly say Subtitles (Theatrical) on the back) here, but not on blu-ray.

If you want to buy this movie in HD now, the only version worth considering is this one: Let The Right One In [Blu-ray] [2008]: Amazon.co.uk.
(Note: no lossless audio stream included, only DTS, which may be another deal-breaker for some people)

If you don't care about HD, just watch the newer DVD release, or Netflix's stream which has always had the correct subs.

Also, fuck this unnecessary and completely pointless remake.

as a general when watching a foreign film i want the subtitle version, the dubs are usually bad and artificial sounding and take away from the movie. now the only times i do recommend dubbing for foreign films is on pr0n and those old kung fu films. that bad dubbing actually makes the film 10 times more enjoyable.

Had a great movie theater moment at Quarantine. The film ends, the 50 or so people in the showing stand up, look around at eachother in dismay, acknowledge they wasted 20 bucks and leave. It was the first time that I have ever seen such a universal thread in a theater. Fuck, that movie was terrible.

The original was horrible, why watch it? I'm sure the new, Americanized version will own because we have superior actors and budgets.

/facepalm

Its funny, even though we both enjoyed the movie, I got a serious stinkeye from a buddy of mine for not warning him about the cootch shot.

Any movie you can do that to a friend with is a winner on that basis alone.

she was a boy with no penis. like it was cut off and sewn up. that is why at one point when he asked if she will be his friend, she says something like "would you still want to be my friend even if i wasn't really a girl?"

The american version has made it conclusive , they changed the name of the "girl" from Eli to Abby which is more commonly associated with females (yes i know there are also boys named Abby)
