Name that movie

It's been driving me crazy since last night and i can't think of the name. I only really remember the ending of it, but i believe the movie is based around and actor trying to perform a Shakespeare play for a french king or something. The final scene of the movie is also the final scene of the play he performs, i want to say Henry VIII, where he strangles the lady on stage in a highly realistic scene. Help me FoH!

yeah you're a bit vague in the description. is it an old movie or new? black n white or color? american or foreign film? famous actors or indie type?

I want to say new-ish. No older than 1990 at the far end. Color, American, i honestly can't say if there are any big name actors but it was a major movie release, so probably. It's been at least 6 years since i've seen it.

That movie is quite awesome though.
