I still don't think it can't be done. Perhaps it's just my point of view, but everything you've described seems like great fodder for making an awesome film with deep social commentary on religious fanaticism.

That and there would be fucking space marines in it, complete with all your glorious gore. Honestly how many people do you think would be able to resist seeing that?

let me clarify Wrath. im not saying "it wont be done" because "it cant be done right"

what i mean is no producer will ever take the risk to bring on screen a faithful version of wh40k universe for the reason i mentioned. they are too used to give us "good wins, evil lose" stories. And not "the cruel and evil side wins against the more corrupted and sadistic one, while billions of innocents no one cares about suffer and die"

it is what makes wh40k so different from any other fictional universe, but it's also what will always keep it out of mainstream, at least in its true form

I agree it would make an awesome movie, wich would NEVER be ok'd in hollywood because of the whole religious fanaticism thing.

Trust me i'd be the first guy in line to see it if it were made as true to the lore as possible. I'm just saying......not gonna happen.

This is what the manager of my local games workshop store told me.

I can't really get into 40k, I'd be happy collecting any of the Fantasy Armies but can't really see the appeal of 40k weirdness.

The Ultramarines are the closest thing to real good guys in the 40k universe. Ultramar is often cited as one the systems in the imperium that isn't dystopic. Roboute Guilliman was the most enlightened of the primarchs. On top of that the ultramarines series focuses on fighting Dark Eldar and Tyranids, IE really bad, bad guys.

That link is worse than wikipedia. Going through what lore they have collected and posted link to link could have kept me their all day. It brings me back to playing 40k and reading through the codex's chapters for the stories as much as the actual rules. Good stuff.

You still fail to impress upon me the possibility that a 40k movie would fail simply because it would be opposed by moral/christfags. The hills have eyes 2. Woman raped by mutants. And you're telling me a story of a dysopterian (always fail at spelling on this one) future can't work because the Imperium is too dark?

Don't get me wrong, i am all for a good Warhammer 40k movie. And i would love to see them go all out on it. You'd just have to make it without hollywood intervening.

What i would LOVE to see is a no holds barred, in your face war movie. Don't fight aliens. Fight humans. Hell, let them invade this planet. To REALLY piss the bible thumpers off. Make it brutal, make it completely devastating, giving the people of the MPAA a fucking stroke thinking "We have to come up with a whole new rating for this footage."


The movie starts with a planet burning. Imperial guard wiping up the last of the xeno's. Space marines congratulating on a job well done, andother planet in the hands of the empire. A commander informs the chapter of their next mission. Psykers located a distant planet, Much like Terra, but with water and "clean" air and.......life.....human life. They wrap up their business and move out.

A shot of Saturn and ships...MASSIVE ships coming out of the warp. So close to Saturn that the rings get shattered. NASA picks some stuff up. Alien life???

Ships move to earth's orbit, everyone in the world is glued to the TV. Then everything goes black. Satellites don't transmit a thing anymore. A few Thunderhawks land on different places in the planet. Armies stand waiting as they see the imperial guard march out of the ship. "Thank god they're humans." a few days later after the scare has passed, Communication, tv broadcasts, radio are enabled again. To announce the arrival of the "Astartes". Curiosity drives a ton of people to the spectacle. The Astartes set foot on earth, High Marshall up front, banners of the emperor, and the countless crusade victories flying in the wind. The people of earth are stunned, the size of those giants, the shining armor, the....heraldry is so familiar to the crusaders of old.....

The Black Templars have arrived.



The communication is friendly, People of earth talk about their crusaders, and remembrancers explain how people on earth are distant relatives of the people on terra and other planets. And about how the templars refer to their battles as crusades and victories in the name of the Emperor.

After a few weeks, a few buildings arise in Russia, Australia, China, the USA and Africa. Fortress monasteries and mechanicum factories. Under the guise of "technology for the betterment of this world" Resources get used like there's no tomorrow.

Then the Templars and Imperial Guard show their true faces and a list of demands is offered to the leaders of several countries:

1. The Emperor will be your new god, all other religions are hereby outlawed.

2. The Entire planet will now belong to the Emperor and will be ruled by his Ambassadors.

3. All countries will surrender their weapons, technology and Resources.

4. All men and children of 12 and older are hereby enlisted as imperial guard, a select few will be "formed" to Astartes.

5. Obey......NOW. Or we will force you on your knees.

What looked like a friendly encounter at first turns pretty sour now, the leaders of the european union call it an outrage, and get slaughtered as an example. The bloodbath is shown all over the world as an example. And i am talking all out massacre, dreadnaught breaking through a wall and trampling people under it's massive feet. Chainswords cleaving people in half, Bolters firing left and right making bodies explode, i don't want blood spatter on the camera i want blood oozing down turning the entire view of the camera red and slightly blurry, but clear enough to see what is going on.

Europe gets completely overrun, buildings burn, massive fields of corpses shown in the aftermath of the culling of Europe.

America, Australia and other countries launch a full scale attack, retalliation ensues, entire armies get slaughtered, earth doesn't stand a chance. Some horrifying shots of the grand canyon as a mass grave and rhino's shoveling corpses into the canyon. Mount Everest shattered to nothing but rubble after an orbital bobardment, because people fled into the mountians. Humanities last stand failed.

I mean last act of the movie in an all out war, scenes that last for 15 or so minutes only showing death and mayhem and brutal slaughter. Armies crushed under the march of Astartes, imperial army wiping up everything with a pulse that somehow miraculously survived the onslaught of the Space Marines.

Rivers coloring red with the blood of millions. Corpses floating in the seas and oceans. The ocean bottoms littered with sunken ships. Big Ben burning, Eiffel tower nothing but rubble, new york shattered. Australia flooded, the brazilian rainforest burning.

Big shots of the horror that erased all mankind from the planet earth.




and the screen goes black.

Then:
Final shot, a Battle cruiser flying away into the warp. A planet fading in the distance.....burning.

credits.


sequel: Space Wolves vs. Necrons.


Too bad this will never happen as a movie.
