Also, its not like evolution magically dispells god, or the existance of a higher power. It just disproves the Earth made in 6 days, only 6,000 years old biblical literal interpretation. But oh no, god forbid....

I still believe there is some type of Star Trek Q-like being that can just fucking blow our minds..... and he likes evolution.

side note, google video "what we still dont know" credit from the science video thread in SS. it is pretty odd how often the scientist bring up the term creator in science. they even mention that they do. when working with the unknown, science acknowledges all options. when dealing with big bang theory if just one factor was different in creation of the universe, it would have not been created and they dont know why it just happen to work.

anyway my point was even scientist consider a higher power because they understand the universe far more then we do. even they acknowledge that for this to happen a was a one in infinity chance. it was kind of puzzling to me at first. then i realized my own belief that god does not exist was influenced by religion when it shouldn't have been. if i dont believe the bible as the word of god why would i even consider it in making my own conclusions. sure we might not believe in their god but even a god. if you are truly an open thinker it has to be an option.

again anyway it made me think that atheist make the wrong conclusion about god based on the bible/religion. they are no different then a devout religious person in basing their beliefs on a 2000-5000 year old story that wasn't even put on paper for 100-1000's of years after the fact . thinking scientifically and ignoring religion, god could have still created the universe if he didn't create man. the way they put it, we could be an experiment in AI from a computer chip and we just happen to be the first edition that is self aware and wonders about our creator. when it comes to the unknown anything is an option dont dismiss god based on christianity.

this is something that really boggles my mind. how people can have such mental lobotomy to believe stuff like that

i understand parents influence or closed communities, but fuck...its 2009 and you are not a 15 years old sheepard (sp?) in the afganistan desert. before the age of 20 you should have stoped a second and said "what the fuck is this shit". That a nation like USA could still have such religious presence is unbelievable

and your situation is different from the one we have here in italy. here we have the major religious center of power of world, that actively try to influence our society. but the result is a struggle between ideas concerning the way we want live our live, but in my 31 years of life i have never found s single person who even consider the bible or new testaments nothing more than "a collection of moral messages" (arguable from my point of view, but thats another matter)

in USA instead you have maybe millions of ppl who believe those text litterally

that's really absurd....

The USA is developing backwards. Soon people will start questioning other theories and stop using PCs and Aircraft because they shouldn't work so it must be witchcraft or something.

Maybe in another 150 years it'll be occupied by Afganistani Atheists, and the redneck mormon hillbillies will be planting IEDs everywhere while trying to legalize rape.

Meanwhile the EU and China will be battling for control of space.

Its ironic really. The same conservative forces that love guns 'n' war 'n' nukes 'n' shit are pushing an agenda that systematically degrades the very scientific and intellectual apparatus that powers the military industrial complex.

AMERICANS: "Ban stem cell research, its God's Will!!"
DIRTY ATHIEST COMMIE CHINESE: "Those wacky Yankees is fucked up in the head, Professor Ming suggest germ warfare for the win!"

What the fuck is this dribble? Atheists dismiss god because they see no reason for him to exist and any explanation given by man for his existence is just some fucking nutjob (man) looking for power of the idiot unwashed masses.

In science, when we don't understand how something works we don't just throw up our hands and go "I DUNNO, MAEYBEAH GAWD DID IT THEN SUNCE I CANT TELL WATS GOIN AWN HERE."

No, we see something we don't understand and then investigate FURTHER until we understand (or run out of money or hopefully blow up the world with our Hadron collider so the religious nutbags can all go die and not go to heaven).

You're a fucking idiot and I feel dumber for having read that useless babble you just wrote down. And no, you're an agnostic fucktard if you even CONSIDER the existence of god as reasonable. I'm an atheist, and the idea of god just infuriates me.

This thread shows why this movie isn't going to come out in America. Shit, we haven't gotten the Christians involved yet and there's still people bitching at each other.

I'm sorry, I just don't take this producer at face value. We've put out plenty of films that don't sit well with conservative Christians in this country. He can't get a backer and it must be because we are a country full of Religious Crazies! There has to be more to the story.

The film was reviewed over here, and had Dawin's great granddaughter or something in the panel.

Apparently they really exaggerate the emotional/religious conflict between Darwin and his wife, in reality she just respected his work.

Also the dwarf guy in the trailer wasn't a dwarf and wasn't mean to Darwin, Darwin wrote his first book in about a year after hesitating over his theory for years - in the end he published because someone else was onto the same thing.

That's what she said anyway.

I agree. While there are plenty of religious crazies over here, that hasn't stopped some much more controversial shit from coming out.

Perhaps, but it doesn't make as good a movie.

Besides

. It is based on the book, Annie's Box, by Darwin's great-great-grandson, Randal Keynes
So I guess it's more a matter of "does it follow the book".
