Gladiator - Blu-Ray

Movie comes out on Tuesday, Sept 1st and save your money. They put a shitty transfer on the disc and isn't worth the money. I would just record it off HBO HD when they air it as it's a better version of the movie. Pretty sad they decided to fuck up the Blu-Ray release of this great movie.

Braveheart on the other hand is getting high marks and reference quality reviews. I totally planned on buying both on Tuesday till I read the bad news over on AVS. ><

They seriously crop the top and bottom of each frame to make it "widescreen"? Not even counting the image quality, that's horseshit.

That's pretty blatantly false advertising if they label it as being widescreen.

kingdom of heaven is fantastic! what gets me about this gladiator stuff is the Ridley's other movies are mostly getting the 5 star treatment, ok blade runner/kingdom of heaven are but one of his best films is getting ignored. I was looking forward to getting Gladiator soon.

From Xylon's Braveheart BD cap thread on AVS however, that transfer looks utterly magnificent and should be well worth picking up next Tuesday.

I'm sure they will do a rerelease so they can double dip. It won't be for a few years though.

So kingdom of heaven directors cut/bluray is good? heard the theatrical was ehhh...but then again I liked Alexander both theatrical and extended gay versions...cept for the gay- but the princess chick is hot and has huge boobs so it makes up for it.

Kingdom of Heaven is significantly better with the director's cut. Makes much more sense, and the fights are much more visceral (ie. bloody as hell).

Troy has an excellent director's cut as well, but I dunno if it's on bluray or not.

Fuck I was really looking forward to Gladiator. So should I just let my PS3 upscale my old DVD of the movie instead of investing 30 bucks in the BD?

Investing 30 bucks? Come on, dude, you drop 200 bucks on a pair of pants don't pretend like 30 bucks is some kind of risky fuckin venture here.

That said, this really, really sucks. I'm half tempted to fly my ass out to Universal and piss "YOU GUYS SUCK GIANT FUCKING MONKEY NUTS FOR FUCKING UP THE GLADIATOR BLU RAY" on the side of their building until they get the goddamn picture. I'll have to drink a LOT of water, but it will be worth it.

I got the Troy blu-ray, it does look good- but I have not finished it- ill check if its directors cut- i belive it is.

I will have to go rent kingdom of heaven tonight :-)
