+58 Internets | Brothers (Maguire, Gyllenhaal, Portman) Honestly thought this was a joke trailer or something until I looked it up on IMDB. Not only does it seem to give away nearly the entire movie, but also is really weird. What kind of kid talks the way the little one does at the end? Definitely didn't expect this when I read the cast list either. A young man comforts his older brother's wife and children after he goes missing in Afghanistan. Based on Susanne Bier's film, "Brothers". |

| Looks like a play by play remake from the movie: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brothers_(2004_film) Synopsis is almost exactly like how the movie is.

+25 Internets | I saw the danish film several years ago and I think the story was told a little differently. In this remake, it feels like the soldier explains what he went through to his wife (or at least her asking about it prompts the flash-back), when in the danish original, we follow the soldier and his wife in parallel. It may be something done purely for the trailer though. Another difference is the ages of the cast. The soldier was a pretty high rank officer and both him and his wife were in their late 30s (the wife was played by a mesmerizing Connie Nielsen) while the irresponsible younger brother was in his early 30s if that. Portman is 28, Maguire is a very youthful looking 34 and Gyllenhaal is 28, so the dynamic and the connotations change a fair bit.

+9 Internets | Interesting. Jim Sheridan did In America which I thought was really good, then he did that 50 Cent movie that I never bothered seeing (I'm sure he's done other stuff, but I haven't seen anything else). This looks like it could be alright, other than the shitty choices of trailer music and the fact that they just showed us waaaaay too much. |

| used to cyber with Wendolyn and Hobben | Original is definitely a very compelling story atleast. Haven't watched this one, surprised to hear about the remake - but out of respect I guess I'll try and find this one just to be sure how great the original was ![]()
